@Rocker2014: Thanks for sharing your experience! We'll have to think about it if the week continues to go poorly. We knew going cold turkey wouldn't be easy, but we hoped there would be a progression of something better each night. We reintroduced our towel "snuggle nest" and have him in a swaddle around his chest only, both arms out. So we'll see how it goes!

@Kbee: Yes, I was thinking exactly like you and wanted to stay away from anything else that we'd have to wean from, but after a week of wakeups every hour, I couldn't take it any more. We were both so miserable. I thought about CIO, but the issue for us wasn't so much falling asleep but staying asleep - she would roll over and startle herself awake, or accidentally hit herself in the face, etc. I wasn't going to not comfort her when she was scared or upset, so Merlin suit was the decision. It went so well the very first night (wakeups only to eat) and she was so happy the next day that I couldn't give it up. She never used it for naps, so she was still practicing sleeping without it daily. After about a month, she started trying to roll in it, and got pretty close to doing it. I was worried about that, and decided to try one bedtime without it. She immediately rolled onto her side and had a great night. We never used it again, no weaning needed.

Good luck!

@SeptMomma12: glad it went well for you! Ours is not good at transitions, including this one...

@teawithpaloma: We've actually already started cold turkey on the crib and swaddle. Currently on night #3. It's not going well, and I'm seeing sleep training (probably Ferber) in our near future. Never thought I'd say that, but I'm not sure he'll ever sleep well if we don't.

@Rocker2014: So you introduced the Merlin after you'd already tried the crib and swaddle changes for a few days? We reallllly don't want another sleep prop, but I think we may have to consider it.

We had the same issues around 4.5 mos. and chose to do both the crib transition and swaddle wean at the same time. She was never a great sleeper, and it pretty much all went to hell during the transition. Merlin suit saved us, and she weaned off it naturally about a month later.

I ripped the bandaid off from swaddle in bassinet (not RnP) to crib in one night. We had the added issue of pacifier which I also got rid of at the same time. I'm really happy I did it all at once (along with Feber-CIO) and would do it at the same time the next time around as well. For us it was at 4.5 months.

We ripped the bandaid and took him out of the nap nanny (this was pre-recall) and swaddle at the same time and it actually went really well. But I should add he's always been a good sleeper and tends to do well with transitions. We did it around 3.5 months.

@LuLu Mom: We have SwaddleMe's, and we're thinking of swaddling him just around his chest, no arms. Not sure yet. Good luck with your transition!

@Chillybear: That was very gradual! We had a crib nest until yesterday. He was using it for naps in the crib, but since he started daycare 2 weeks ago he's been napping in a regular crib there, so we decided to just go crazy and take it out!

we went from swaddle in the RnP to Swaddle in a crib nest (2 rolled towels under the sheet) around 5-6 months to no crib nest no swaddle at 7-8 months..... and we sleep trained around 9-10 months.... her sleep was still pretty crappy.

If i did it all again I would just rip off the bandaid and do it all at once....

I guess I would vote #1, I think the bigness of the crib without the swaddle when he's used to the nice coziness of the RNP + swaddle would be a rough transition. Maybe get a Halo sleep sack and do arms out first?

We are doing crib transition after father's day (we are going on vacation where she will be in RNP) and we are planning on continuing using the halo sack, but we have always kept her arms out it is just the coziness/comfort of the straps I think she needs.

@BabyTsMom: We've thought about the Merlin, but have mostly decided against it for that reason - it'd just be something else to wean him off of! Thanks for voting

I vote for #2. Another option is the Merlin Magic Suit but you'd eventually have to get rid of that at some point too.

Short version: Do we just rip the band-aid off and swaddle wean while transitioning him from the RnP to the crib?

DS is 4 months and 1 week and can now maneuver himself onto his side in the RnP. We're biting the bullet and transitioning him to the crib now, which is elevated with a crib wedge. He's been napping in the crib for the last month (swaddled with 1 arm out) and naps in a crib at daycare (they don't swaddle him, but I think they use the swing to get him to sleep before moving him). He has never been a good night sleeper, but it's been much worse in the last month. We figure we might as well go all out with the transition and swaddle weaning together because we don't want to have two transitions from hell when we can just go with 1 (if it works...).

Would you:
1. Transition to the crib while still swaddled, and then once the dust settles move onto swaddle weaning?
2. Move to crib and swaddle wean at the same time?

(Yes, all of my posts recently have been about sleep and cribs, it consumes our life and we're ready to move on!)
