Have you looked at wayfair?

I was leaning toward a Jenny Lind until I saw some of the more simple ones there. And they're decent prices!

@MaryM: Oh, yeah. I can. Good point. Though, now that I'm looking at cribs online, I'm liking some that would be used long term. I was thinking of buying the IKEA crib and if I had to, I could donate it when we move... But the ones online are a bit more expensive and can be turned into a twin or full size bed. So I've now switched into thinking long term use instead of cheap short term use. Plus, we have more space in the nursery now so I can get a matching dresser.

@petunia354: @MrsSRS: Yeah, up until I was placed on hospital bed rest, my plan was to get the IKEA crib. But since I'm in hospital and that I'm the one who puts together all of our IKEA furniture, I'm now looking at Amazon cribs where they can be shipped directly to my house. I'll check out Target and Walmart to see if they deliver and the cost. I will use my registry completion discount with Amazon so I'll see what is cheaper.

I'm not that short (5'4") but I still had a hard time putting LO into his crib once he started getting heavier. When he was little and the mattress was up high it wasn't that bad but when he was 1 and the crib was low, it killed my back! We have an old jenny-lind so it's pretty much the same height, the head and foot are maybe 3" taller if that.

IKEA makes a few cribs that are all one height and low budget, but even better they have shorter legs so you can bend at the waist and don't need a step stool.

@snowjewelz: I am tall with fairly long arms and I could never manage an easy transfer into our mini crib on the highest setting! Hence why we are crib drop outs.

I'm 5'2 and leaning torward to a simple crib like the first one. Plus, we already have furniture for when LO transitions to a bed (what I grew up with), so I don't feel like I need a crib that can become a fancy toddler bed.

I'm 5'1" - it was fine when DS was a newborn b/c we had the mattress to its highest. But, when he started to stand we lowered it to the lowest setting - I had to get stool so that I could lay him down.... sometimes I lean in too much and then I fall in with him! It's a LOL moment but also a little embarrassing :silly:

Yeah, I'm barely 5'1 and it's annoying! Plus my LO was sooo hard to put down, I'd have to lean over and slowly lower her down. We lowered the crib now and it's even more annoying, I think that's why we co-sleep now at night haha, but I know you can't with twins! I'd probably just get a step stool... I feel like it will be a challenge either way!

I'm 5'2 and have a standard crib. It is a little bit of a reach but I'm used to it. I guess I probably drop him in a bit as mentioned above, but he doesn't seem to mind. Of course he was higher up when he was younger and more fragile. Our crib is taller on the sides, I feel like maybe that makes it harder for him to climb out? He's never gotten close to climbing out so that's good.

I guess I'm the only one who does have trouble even with the crib at the highest setting. I recently put a step stool next to the crib and it's been a big help. I feel like I'm hauling LO over a high jump to put her down. I prefer using the stool so I don't have to swing her up and over to get in (once I have her drowsy and calm).

I'm short and we have the taller back than front/sides crib. The tall back is against the wall so it's no biggie. Like others have mentioned, they're in the highest setting when they're little so it's not a problem. It does get a bit more tricky to put them down when they're in the lower setting because I feel like I just "drop" him in the last few inches. However, it doesn't seem to bother him.

I'm 5'1" and we have one that has the same height all around. I specifically looked for cribs that got good reviews from shorter people and ended up with the Babyletto Modo. It is expensive right now on amazon but they go on sale. Walmart sells a very similar looking one which is the same company but branded differently (Baby mod olivia) and it is less expensive, however I'm not sure if the measurements are the same. The Baby mod ones are on sale for $199 right now.

We have one of each. The one that is the same height al the way around is definitely easier to get baby out of. DH has short arms and once DD got bigger he couldn't lay her down in her crib sleeping because the side was so high, she has one of the "fancier" high back cribs.

@bluestriped bee: Yeah, I totally understand that it would get pricey having to buy 2 cribs! I'll add that my mom watches DS every day and she's had no issues getting him in and out of one of the basic IKEA cribs. She's probably 5'5".

I'm 5'2" and was worried about this too. Our cribs are the Kendall low profile cribs from PBK. They are 4" shorter than their other standard cribs. I don't know if it really makes a difference or if it's just a placebo effect, but I've never had any issues lifting them into their cribs. I highly recommend this option!

I'm 5 feet tall and overall short, we have a normal crib and I've had no issues. They are on the highest setting until they can roll or pull up. So there are three stages and they are only on the lowest once they are pulling to a stand, so that's a ways away.

@bluestriped bee: I'm short with short arms, and I agree with PP that in the beginning, you'll have the mattress at the highest setting and it's not that far to reach down, and once they're older, and the mattress is lower, they'll be standing up.

I will say, however, that my toddler wants me to arrange her friends in the crib every night, so I am reaching down to the bottom all the time, and it's not easy - sometimes I go to the side to reach the back. But it's not a huge deal.

I'm also short with short arms. Our crib is the same height on all 4 sides - like others have said, when they are really little the mattress is raised which makes it easier. You just come up with a system that works for laying them down!!
P.S. Love the style of those cribs!

I am short with short arms. We have both of those kind of cribs and either work. They're up really high when they're little, and by the time you get to the bottom setting, they can stand so you don't need to reach down that far. The crib that we have that looks like the first one that you posted is the $89 one from Ikea and it works as well as the one we got with our first, which was $350.

@petunia354: oh, cool! Good to know they make low profile cribs.

ETA: Oh, it's a $399 crib. With two babies, it a bit more than I want to spend. I'm thinking under $200. Although, some twin moms don't use cribs for the first couple months and some moms put both babies in one crib. I think I want to get both cribs now and plan to transition them to their cribs within a month of their arrival.

We are both short and bought the PBK low profile Kendall crib, it's made for short parents! I suspect that you'll get into a groove and always get the babies from one side so I don't think think it necessarily matters if the crib is the same height all around, although I do like that look the best!

I'm thinking of getting a crib that is one height on all 4 sides. Since we are having twins, I want the ability to reach in on any side. Plus, we will probably move a few times in the next 2 years so I want to be flexible.
1) If you are short and/or have short arms, do you ever have trouble reaching into the crib to get the baby? Do you ever need a stool or need to stand on your tippy toes to reach the baby?
2) Does anyone have a crib that is not the same height all around and have the crib in a position where you have to walk around to grab the baby? Like this. (Notice the crib is in the middle of the room.) Do you ever wish you had the ability to reach in from any side to get the baby?

Second photo is how our room probably will be laid out. See, we need to access the crib from 3 sides.

Just wondering if I'm over thinking this. Though, maybe it's not a problem with one baby but might get annoying with two or more babies.
