Our doctor suggested taking LO into a steamy bathroom for 15 minutes at least twice a day. That helped.

If it is croup, your doctor will most likely prescribe steroids.

Have her breathe in moist air. Like... air in the bathroom after a hot shower. Cool air also helps... it's cold here in Iowa so bundling her up and taking her outside would help. Or having her near the freezer. And keep her hydrated. Hope she starts feeling better!

@sandy: He was noticeably better within 3 days of getting the steroid. I'd say he was back to normal within a week of taking it.

DS had croup in September. It was miserable for everyone! The doctor prescribed a one time steroid and told us to use a humidifier at night. Other than that, we just had to wait for him to get over it.

LO has labored breathing (sounds like she needs to clear her throat when she breathes) and tonight I heard the sharp seal like barking cough...she's asleep and seems fine but the cough sounds awful. Her cousin came over for thanksgiving and his mom mentioned she suspected he had croup.

I'll call the pediatrician's office tomorrow but just wondering what if anything I can do for her. She is 12.5 months old.
