My LO just got over this and it was a bad case :(

She is 22 months. She started doing the seal barking cough Friday night and Saturday she was definitely not feeling well. She didn't have much of an appetite and was generally feelin yucky - low energy, whiny, and she had a fever and coughing. We kept pushing the fluids and Tylenol and gave her baths in our bathtub while also running a hot shower. This all helped and she took a 4 hour nap...but her breathing was super wheezy and bad coughing around dinner time. I called the nurse line since the doctor's office was closed and they listened to her breathing and "suggested" we take her into an urgent care clinic. I wish I had listened to her or that she has been more definitive about us taking her...it sounded more like a suggestion "could get worse so you should think about taking her in tonight". It was so close to bedtime and my LO is a champ sleeper so we decided to wait until the morning.

She had an awful night and in the morning I could see her little chest and ribs caving in from the effort to get a breath (stridor). This was the one thing they said to go to the ER right away so we ended up in the ER Sunday morning. She got the breathing mask treatment, a steroid shot and X-rays. It was awful but she got better by Sunday night. It took her another week to lose the cough and runny nose.

Not trying to scare you but I would go see the doc right away so you have the steroids on hand just in case. Her 2 little friends just also had croup (probably from their respective daycare/preschool bc we didn't see them) and they got over it without incident

Yes we had it a few weeks ago. It started off as a regular cold and then he woke up in the middle of the night barking and wheezing. It is viral so there isn't much they can do for it unless it is bad enough to need breathing treatment. We used a humidifier and sat in the steamy bathroom with him. That seemed to help.

DS has it right now. It started as a fever and runny nose, then the next day he had the barking seal cough. We have done lots of steamy showers which has helped a lot. The dr also gave us some medicine, prednisolone, to help with the inflamation since his breathing was really wheezy.

Hopefully Isaiah doesn't get it!

Anyone deal with this? Isaiah was exposed to a baby yesterday who has it and now I'm watching him like crazy for it.

Any advice?
