That's a really high fever! With that plus the barking cough, I'd go to the doctor just in case!!

@regberadaisy: It doesn't sound like croup to me. Or maybe it was croup and now its something else. In my experience the cough is worst the first couple of nights, then gets better. If the cough is getting worse, it might be something else of LO might need steroids.

I have 2 LOs. They have both had croup (so I've experienced croup 4 times). With my kids it always starts out with a barky cough and congestion. The cough is always worse at night and the first 2 nights are brutal (LO is coughing too much to sleep, prefers to sleep upright, no one is getting any sleep). My LOs usually get a fever the first or second night, that is it.

We've always be told to sit a steamy bathroom with LO for 10 minutes and/or having them breathe cold air (outdoors or by opening the freezer door). If LO has issues breathing (stridor), they'll be given steroids or a breathing treatment.

@travellingbee: how many days before his fever was gone?

@lawbee11: she barely had a voice on Friday and Saturday but yesterday and today her voice is much better. But coughing a lot more often but the cough doesn't sound as bad anymore, if that makes sense?

@lavender: good tip -- it's pretty cold out so I don't want to take her out.

DD1 has had croup a couple of times and each time she was put on a steroid and had to stay home for daycare. Our ped had us hold her in front of the freezer, breathing in the cold air helped the flair ups.

LO was out of daycare for an entire week when she had it. The ped put her on a steroid which seemed to help with the cough. She probably could've gone back on Thursday of the week she had it as her fever was gone by then, but she still seemed off and like she didn't feel well so we kept her home. Hope she feels better soon!

ETA: Does she sound hoarse?

Lo had it for about 2 days--two really bad nights of fever (I think up to 102.7?) and barky cough. Maybe look I to steroids if the cough is bad?

E had it a few days...we would take her out in the cold, which reduces inflammation of the airways. She had a fever but I don't think it spiked above 104. She was really flushed, though, and in good spirits otherwise. It sounded really bad but she overall didn't seem too terribly affected by it

LO has had croup more than once. It comes on suddenly, and the first 2 days are the worst but sometimes the cough lingers as much as a week. His fever would spike to 102ish.

DD1, 32m is on her 4th day of what I believe to be croup. She has the unmistakable barking cough and eyes are super watery and overall warmer than usual. Friday - Sunday every day around noon her temp will spike to 102.8. Then overnight it will spike again to 102.8. Each time I give a dosage of ibuprofen. Overall she's in fine spirits which is why I haven't been worried.
Yesterday (Sunday) her cough got worse (less barky though). Last night she woke up around 11pm and she was BURNING up. Her temp spiked to 104.7. We immediately gave ibuprofen then called the ped. They told us to get her in a lukewarm bath then take her temperature rectally 30 minutes later. We took her temp 20 minutes later and it was down to 101~. We ended up all sleeping down in the family room so we can keep an eye on her.

When your child had croup how many days did it last? Dr Google is saying 2-3 days. Did they get a fever? How many days did that last and how high? Does this still sound like a croup to you? I'm wondering if she has some other kind of virus now. She's home with me today and if she spikes a fever again we're going to take her in.

Thanks.
