As someone who had a middle of the night ER visit with their LO because they couldn't breathe, it's not something I would take my chances with exposing my LO to, especially if their immune system isn't quite 100%.

It's important to understand that croup is a symptom, not a disease. It is an inflammation of the airway caused by excessive coughing in children. Croup can appear during the flu or a very bad cold, (and diphtheria, but standard vaccinations rule this out).

So just assume the worst and that this child's croup was caused by the flu. So follow the guidelines for flu exposure.

When my LO had croup she was out of daycare for an entire week (and it was a long, miserable week). I wouldn't risk it.

Croup can be completely horrible (we had a middle of the night ER visit...) and in my experience super contagious. You might be okay, but I sure as heck wouldn't risk it.

DD had a croup like cough once and Dr. said to keep her home from daycare the rest of the week it was Tuesday or Wednesday I believe. So to me that is the 5 day window. I personally would not be ok being around them, being treated or not.

We are supposed to go to a friend's house tomorrow night to have dinner and stay over. Their toddler got croup 3 days ago and is being treated but I'm nervous for my 2 year old DD to get it. She was sick with a cold and stomach virus over xmas and she's now potty training so it's been a lot for all of us lately. I tend to be pretty laid back about kid's sickness and know it's inevitable with daycare (she goes 5 days/week). Dr. Google says croup is contagious for 5-6 days so tomorrow is still in that window but definitely a gray area. Does anyone have experience or other information based on your LO?
