We have scheduled a cruise when our LO is 8 months (this June) and have his grandparents coming. I would make sure that the cruise you are looking for allows children that age. Most cruises we looked at were 6 months or 12 months depending upon where they went.

Not sure but one thing to think about with cruises is I've heard you cannot bring pumped milk. I'd bet you and pump and feed if needed, but I thought that was a wild thing to outlaw!

@Cole: Interesting about bringing a blow up tub - I would ask the cruise line directly about the shower/tub. On Holland America there is a tub in every cabin. It isn't a full size adult tub, but it's definitely deep enough for a toddler to bathe in (and an adult, if you are not looking to stretch out and lounge), and you have the option to fill the tub or use as a shower. The shower is also hand-held, which was convenient for rinsing!

With an infant, I would suggest Royal Caribbean or Princess. We took a Princess cruise and it was mostly adults with a few babies and young children sprinkled in. I would think a more adult-focused cruise would be best with a baby that age rather than a "fun" cruiseline like Carnival or Disney.

I went on a short cruise with LO when she was 18 months on Royal Caribbean - it was AWESOME. They have daycare for babies of any age, playrooms with toys, everything you could want.

Funny you should start this topic. We won a cruise that sets sail this July for 7 days when our little guy will be 10mo. I'm wondering if it'd be too difficult to be separated from him for a whole week if we left him at home with grandparents.

What would you do about food for your LO? Would the cruise line provide baby-appropriate things that didn't contain salt etc or would you be able to bring a stash to last the whole trip?

My gut feeling is that bringing a baby would not make for a very relaxing trip but if you've got relatives coming too, you'll probably be ok.

Went on an Alaskan cruise when my daughter was a little over a year and it was great. She loved hanging out on the ship. No issues whatsoever. Couldn't hang out much at night but it was fine- we aren't huge partiers anyways and our days were pretty packed so by nighttime we were exhausted.

I personally think that travel is easier with a toddler than with a baby. With a baby, you're probably not sleeping all night, you're still nursing/bottle feeding, etc. We took my daughter on her first big trip at about 21 months, and it was a great age for it.

We did a one-week Mediterranean cruise with LO when she was 3.5 months old. We went with MSC cruise because it was the only one that allowed a baby that young on the ship. I had read some less than stellar reviews, but was surprised at how wonderful the people on the ship was and overall amenities. My family was all there too, so it was helpful to get a break once in awhile (though BF'ing did have me in the room by myself quite often). Adjoining rooms are great if you can get them! My parents and sister had adjoining rooms, we left K in the room with the grandparents sometimes while we all hung out in sis' room.

I am interested in following this too, we are taking lo on a cruise for my bil's wedding right after she hits six months. We are going on carnival which we have done before but obviously a baby adds a twist.

Two things I have read are too bring a small blow up tub since you will only have a shower in your cabin. Apparently some people bring it up on deck and fill it with water to hang out at the pool too. The other thing is bring a bottle brush and dish soap if you are going to need bottles, the room steward can then have the bottles sterilized (I haven't looked into how two do this yet though...)

We did spring for a balcony so we can at least hang out outside after lo is asleep or have a nice view for nursing. I am assuming we will spend a fair amount of time in our cabin on this trip.

We just cruised with LO (2.5 years) on holland America. It was a lot of fun! Only downside (no grandparents came with us) was that we couldn't do any of the later night activities, but that was ok because I was pretty beat by the end of the day. They can't go into cruise ship pools until they are potty trained, but at 9months your LO won't be old enough to know what they are missing.

I've only ever cruised with Holland America so can't speak to other lines, but they will put a fridge in your room at no extra charge if you are cruising with a baby/toddler, and will make them whatever you/they want to eat. I think you can arrange for baby food with them too.

We haven't cruised with dS yet but we have cruised a few times and I recommend Royal Caribbean or Norwegian. Carnival is more for the partying crowd and their sister line La Costa is more a non US crowd. I would def book a cruise w ds and family!

I've never cruised but we're looking into it for next summer. It would be a family trip so LOs would be with us. We're having to decide between Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Hopefully some others who have cruised will weigh in!

My husband is going to graduate with his Ph.D. in June which has been a looooong road (understatement of the year) and we'd like to celebrate with a Mediterranean cruise with our LO who will be about 9 mo at the time. We figured if family/friends want to join it would be easy, and it would be an easier way to get a little more of our travel bug in with a youngster before we hit toddler-zone and put our international travel on hiatus for a bit.

Any advice on which cruise line would be good for us? It's fine if there's no childcare for her age group, I know most have to be potty trained. If any of the grandparents come we would have built in childcare! Anyone done this with a 9 mo LO before? Advice?
