Thanks for the replies - it's very reassuring. Maybe he is an easy bruiser! I've baby proofed the really dangerous stuff but was just worried that maybe people didn't let their babies roam free on hard floors!

I haven't let him loose outdoors yet - I'd definitely have to keep hold of him on a pavement I think!

Totally normal. D has fallen a ton, and has wound up with bruises on his face and scrapes on his knees. It happens. You can't be next to them 100% of the time, and figuring out how to fall and get back up on their own is important. Just babyproof the really scary stuff, and teach him what not to go near, and you'll both be fine.

It's normal! We have hardwood floors too and Xander toppled a lot. I don't know about him being covered in bruises, but he definitely had a few while learning to walk!

We tried to be more careful outside on pavement in the kitchen on tile, but for the most part, we let him do his thing and he fell a bunch.

My LO seems to permanently have bruises on her legs and at least one on her forehead at all times! She also has a big blue bruise on her bum after sitting on a bath toy! Like you say, the upset is quickly forgotten and they're back at it straight away. I babyproofed anything super dangerous like the stairs, bannister and the fireplace, but otherwise I let her figure it out.

I think it's normal to fall a ton when they just start cruising, although DS didn't get bruises from his falls. As long as he's in an open area, and there's not much to get bumped on, I would think it's ok. Our DS did fall into a hinge on a piece of furniture and split his eyebrow open....we were much more vigilant after that and made sure he was in "open space".

DS has gone from crawling, to pulling up, to trying to cruise - all in the space of about 2 weeks. All he wants to do all day is stand holding on to our coffee table with one hand and testing his balance as he moves his feet around.

He falls over ALL THE TIME, I mean this kid is black and blue. He has bruises all over his head, face, legs, everywhere. It's not that he hits himself on the coffee table (although he does occasionally - it's not sharp though) - it is mostly the floor that he hits himself on, or sometimes he lands on a toy.

The floors are wood, but I don't have the space to pen him in anywhere, and he would be absolutely furious if I did. Sometimes I happen to be behind him so I can catch him, but I don't stick by his side constantly and I never discourage pulling up on anything unless it could fall on him or is sharp.

My question is, should I be intervening more? Is it normal for them to fall over every 5 minutes or is he just accident prone? He gets very upset for about 30 seconds and then is straight up doing the exact same thing! I just feel so guilty about all the bumps and bruises, I don't see other kids covered in them!
