I pull gross crusty dried milk bits off my nipples all the time. Maybe try warm washcloths over top before pumping? Perhaps you have some milk blisters or clogs right at the surface?

Thank you! I'm a little itchy, but not bad. LO has no white patches in her mouth. She is fussing a bit, but not always. I think I find it most strange because I can't find much on Dr. Google on what's going on. Will call my doc's nurse on Monday.

It could be thrush if you're uncomfortable. You may want I check the inside of LO's mouth too. Also around 9 months lots of woman see a dip in pumping output. Crust can also be normal

@BlueWolverine: are you having pain and/or is little one fussing at the breast? I wonder if its thrush or some sort of breast infection.

For the past few weeks my nipples have be come crusty and little cracked. I've peeled what looks like either dead skin or crusty milk off my nips more than once. I've been trying to put lanolin on them all the time. I had to go find the dang tube, as I hadn't used it for months. LO is 9.5 months old, so we've been breastfeeding for a while. I've never been able to pump a lot, but recently my output for the entire day has gone from about 8-10 oz to five. LO's sleep is bad and I'm wondering if I'm just not producing enough. When we're together I exclusively nurse, and she gets formula + whatever breast milk I pump at day care. Anyone deal with something like this?

PS - I love you, hive, for being here to help with crusty nipple questions.
