@Rainbow Sprinkles: Awesome! Thanks. We are going shopping on Friday to look at the car. I'm due with #3 on LO 2's 2nd birthday so I can FF if necessary.

@Canoli:
It's working really well, but we just had to change one of the Diono Radians forward facing in order to get them to fit together better. When one was RF and one was FF, the set-up was a bit bulkier. They all fit, but it was squished.

Now, there is one FF Radian in the middle, one FF Radian next to it, and one Chicco Keyfit on the other side. It fits really, really well. The oldest child is in the middle, so she can climb into her seat on her own. It's nice having her next to the baby, because she can replace pacifiers, etc.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: just wanted to check in with you and see how your 3 across is working out. I am 3 months pregnant and time to go car shopping and really like the CRV but need 3 across for sure.

@Canoli: oh, I love it RF! We got an angle adjuster for it (Diono sells them, about $10) so it doesnt take up the leg room of the person sitting in the seat it is behind. Right now we have a radian on each side, but we will have one RF behind driver, one FF in the middle, and an infant seat behind passenger when the new baby comes.

Thanks everyone.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: thank you for your response. Maybe we can make this work. What is your configuration? How is the Radian RF? I know some people don't like it RF. I love that our Radian is slim and my son seems to like it but I feel like when he falls asleep his head slumps over and looks so uncomfortable.

@lisa1783: yes! :) right now we just have 2 Radians in it, (one FF and one RF) and then we will add a RF infant seat shortly! (But it HAS to be the Chicco Keyfit).

We have a 2008 CR-V and can fit 3 car seats easily across. The key is getting the right seats. 2 Diono Radians + a Chicco Keyfit fit REALLY well. Actually, with inches to spare on each side. It's not crammed! Once DD3 outgrows the Keyfit, we will get another Radian and have 3 in a row.

We did hours of research and tried dozens of dofferent seat combinations in our car. We had a a tough call to make in terms of whether or not to buy a new car. Once we saw how well the Radians fit, we were sold and knew that we wanted to keep our CRV as long as possible.

FWIW the Diono Radian RXT is good for 10 years, goes from RF with infant insert to FF convertible and then booster, so you could skip the Britax Marathon (or other convertible) entirely.

If you guy already have a large SUV, the Pilot, why can't that be the main family car to fit the 3 carseats needed and whoever is driving the kids around take that car and leave the smaller car to the other person? Or do both need to fit 3 car seats all the time?

@Canoli: how old would the oldest be? Will they still need to be in a convertible? I have done zero research into booster seats but it seems like they would be narrower. Even if you can fit 3 across it seems like it would be hard to get the child into the middle seat.

Fwiw we have a Lexus rx350, which is slightly bigger than the crv, and had two RF Chico next fit seats back there plus one small adult and it was really tight. No way could we have put another car seat. But the next fit is definitely wiser than the radian.

You might want to ask @rainbowsprinkles. I think she has a CRV and could fit 3 car seats across. I think it was 2 diono and 1 RF car seat but she would have to confirm

I have a 2013 CRV and I do love my car. My twins aren't here yet but I went with the Chicco key fit because it's a narrow infant car seat. I wanted a bit more room in case I had to sit back there. We don't them installed yet but I thought I read some where I could get 3 across. (Oh, I just refreshed my memory with the 3 across link above and it looks like I would have to get a Chicco NextFit (x2) and 1 Chicco Keyfit, if I were having triplets.) We did IVF so multiples was a possibility. No real experience, though.

There was talk about trading in one of our cars for a larger car. I found some larger SUVs and minivans but I would have been real sad to give up my CRV. DH did say he would trade in his truck for a larger SUV or a minivan. He also is planning on being the SAHD for our kids.

I have a new CR-V (2015) and we have 2 seats in the back, a FF Diono Radian RXT and a RF infant bucket. I think you could probably get 3 Radians across, but not sure about the RF infant bucket with 2 Radians. Also, there are only 4 latch locations, so one would have to be installed with the seatbelt (which isn't any less safe, but just a consideration for ease of installation).

ETA: The CR-V is our "family" car, I just traded a Nissan Murano to get this one after having safety issues with the Murano. We find it to have enough space for us, the trunk is surprisingly spacious for the size of the car IMO.

Following. We have a 2008 CRV and I love it. I have fit 3 car seats in the back when baby sitting my cousins, but two where boosters and it was just for a trip to McDonalds. They were quite tight back there, I don't know how it would work long term.
I do agree that the trunk space is limited. Our other car is a Hyundai Elantra and it has way more trunk space then my CRV, even though it's a small car.

if i were the main driver, i wouldn't choose to get a smaller SUV for myself. we bought an outback a few years ago, which could fit 3 across with smaller seats and has the trunk space to (tightly) accommodate 3. when we were looking for the new car, we looked at the RAV4s and the CRVs, but the trunk space was just too tight. when we have 3, i'll definitely go for a SUV with the 3rd row (or yes, even succumb to the conveniences of the mini van!)

We have a CRV and a Pilot. Our CRV is from 2012, so I'm not sure if they made major changes, but the one we have wouldn't fit 3 car seats across. Our pilot would, but it would be tight. My friend has a Volvo SUV which she has 3 car seats in, but she had to do special narrow seats to fit (and ultimately they ended up getting another car with a third row which she prefers). The new pilot (2016) comes with a third row with captains chairs which could make things easier.... But I hear you, I love my CRV and I like that it's a little smaller than the Pilot.

Not sure if this is in the right place but just thinking about the future. We currently have 2 LO's and are thinking of taking the plunge into the 3 kiddo world.

I currently have a small car and would need a bigger car to accomodate 3 across. I really like the new CRV's and want to get advice from those that may have one. I have gone on the car crash detective's website so I know 3 can fit but has anyone in real life done it and with which car seats? I currently have 1 FF in a Diono and 1 RF in a Britax Marathon. We plan on keeping the Diono but will most likely need to get another infant seat and a new convertible.

My husband drives a larger SUV so we are hoping to get away with a smaller SUV for me. And please don't suggest a mini van. I know there are mama's that love them and more power to you we are just not interested in going that route :)
