@Corduroy: same here! My LO is also four months old and while we've never sleep-trained, he also has fussed/cried through almost the second part of our night-time routine since he was a itty-bitty baby - our routine is nurse, bedtime song, bath, lotion, pjs, bed, and he ALWAYS, like without fail, starts to fuss/cry as we start to put his pjs on.

He actually responds really well to one particular nursery rhyme (patty cake) so I just say that over and over again until I can get his jammies on and him into bed. I'm sure anyone who overheard the monitor would think I'm crazy, since sometimes I have to say it 10 to 15 times before we're ready for bed, but hey, it works so I'll happily keep doing it lol!

Anyway, like @rubycali, I can also relate!

My LO is also 4 months and on the same schedule (waking from a cat nap at 5:30/6 and bed after 8). Sometimes she cries through our entire bedtime routine too. More often than not it is when she's overtired. Sometimes that 30 minute cat nap just isn't enough to sustain her through the evening and its just a matter of plowing through the routine to get her to bed! I can relate though-- the screaming is no fun!

I thought sleep training was going well. Once I put her down she only fusses for a minute or two, tonight she didn't fuss at all in her crib. Just during the bedtime routine.

She seems tired at 8. We settled on that bedtime because before sleep training she would fall asleep in a carrier around 7:30 but it would take us until 10 or so to be able to put her down without waking.

My first instinct was that she knows the sleep training is coming and maybe it's not going well for her? But I'm not sure, given what you've written if that's possible. Is she not tired yet at 8?

We started sleep training our 4 month old about 8 days ago and it's going really well... Except the bedtime routine. She screams through the whole thing. I take her to her room, change her diaper, nurse, and read two books. She screams when I start to change her diaper and sometimes she's too upset to nurse. If she won't nurse I read the stories first and try again. That has worked so far but the screaming is pretty distressing.

She usually wakes up from a 30 min nap at 5:30 or 6:00 and I put her down at 8:00. She doesn't scream at other diaper/outfit changes.

Anyone have experience with this? Do I need a longer routine or some sort of transition step? Is it nap related?
