if he goes out like a light, then i think it's ok! i do believe some babies need to let off a little steam whereas others just get more worked up when they cry. it's a good thing that he's a good sleeper, but i know the crying is still sad.

@mrs. wagon: yep, it's not for a long time at all but it's like, he knows it's time for sleep, turns his head and sucks his thumb and just cries about it, lol - few minutes later though and he's out cold.

@rachiecakes: I know, it's horrible, at 2.5 years it still breaks my heart every time Wagon Jr. wakes up crying (still happens usually 1-3 times a night). :( But after all this experience I know it's best to let him work it out on his own. Usually he cries for less than 60 seconds and is back asleep within a few minutes. I still get sad though... every single time!

yea! he's just about to crawl, he scoots around pretty good and rolls like a champ.
he does go out like a light right after his cry but ugh, I hate seeing my little one cry like that, lol

My midwife told me that crying is a way for babies to relieve stress. I found this to be true on days where my son's schedule was a bit off or he had a new experience.

Wagon Jr. has always had stints where he'll cry when we leave (usually after some transition like we've been away for a few days or something) but it only lasts a few days. Also, when he cries before a nap or night sleep he always sleeps better. Haha. If he's not crying very hard and not for a long time I would say try to leave him, otherwise you're going to have to sit there til he's asleep every time.

it's hard to say what it is. could be that he is older and more aware now and doesn't want you to leave. he could be going through a developmental stage like rolling over/sitting up/crawling. does he go to sleep right away after crying?

i think that some babies need to let off a little steam and then they sleep well.

We don't have DS on much of a schedule. He wakes up when we do, is fed when hungry, naps when he's tired. DH is a WAHD, so he just goes with the flow with DS's needs.

I have a bedtime routine for him where I read a book, turn out the light and nurse him before I put him in his crib. It's worked really well for a while but for the past few nights he's started crying when I turn out the light. I'm with him and I rub his back, hold him, etc. I can tell he's about to fall asleep because his eyes are always closed while he's crying and he's trying to suck his thumb (he always does that when he's about to sleep). Up until a few nights ago, he's never cried when it's bedtime.

It's like he's fighting sleep these days.. is that normal?
