My LO still does this sometimes at 19 months. Some nights, nothing, some nights, at least a few times. It usually doesn't last for long. Totally normal -- I figure he's just transitioning sleep cycles. Obviously if he makes it clear that he's not going to go back to sleep, I'll go in, but I'd definitely give him awhile to work it out on his own first!

Totally understandable for you to be worried if he never did that before! My LO wasn't always a loud sleeper before, but once we unswaddled and he became more mobile he became louder too!

@Sammyfab: I'm not worried so much as I'd never heard of this happening sort of thing. And like you and @BabyBoecksMom: mention, they usually move around a little and then go back to sleep. I think part of it is that he's just now started sleeping through the night and the little cries sound so sad and lost I find it hard to go back to sleep because I keep wondering if something's genuinely wrong.

Also, it seems really loud to me but that's because the headboard of our bed shares the same wall as Henry's crib in his nursery. And because I'm not sleeping well to begin with. In the new house (if we get it, finger's crossed!) his bedroom will be across the hall and I'll have to rely on a monitor. But I have a feeling his new sibling is going to be plenty of competition for his little cries!

So I was just wondering if I was the only one! I'm glad I'm not.

My LO is a loud sleeper and he will yelp while he rolls around or changes position. Actually, just now he's been moaning and moving around for the past 12 minutes with his eyes closed. I figure as long as he can fall back asleep and doesn't seem to need me, then it's not a big deal. Since he's such a loud sleeper we actually started sleeping with a fan in our room to drown out some noise. I can still hear him if he really needs me but I'm not woken up by every toss and turn (he is in his own room but we share a wall).

DD is the same age and also hasn't slept through the night until just recently. She did the same thing as your son for a few weeks, but the past 3 nights, she stopped. It's like she would wake up, cry, find her pacifier or blanket and then go back to sleep. And every time, it took me forever to get back to sleep because I kept thinking she needed something. But I don't think she was actually "awake" each time she cried. Hopefully it will pass quickly for you.

I read somewhere that babies can cry when transitioning between sleep cycles (REM and non-REM)

Henry's 12 months old. He just started in the past month to sleep what I'm calling through the night - from about 8 to at least 6 - without me having to feed him. It's been great! (Now if my pregnancy would just let me sleep...)

But every night, at least once or twice a night, he cries. Usually it's his sad, upset cry. It only lasts a few seconds and it may be minutes before he cries again or that could be it for the night until later on. Every single time, I wake up and I start to get up, afraid he's woken up and needs a bottle. It takes me forever to get back to sleep and he will do this two or three times a night.

Does anyone else have experience with this? Do they out grow it? Is it just a phase?
