Unpopular opinion alert! I am not into corporal punishment but when my son touched some electrical cords the other day I slapped his hand. I felt horrible, but I wanted him to remember that. In that type of situation, where a child could DIE from the action, I think it's warranted.

I actually do have tiebacks but they're super easy to undo - maybe I'll invest is something a little stronger.

Our kiddos don't have impulse control just yet. My babe is the same: she loves "fun" things, and it doesn't really matter if it's safe or not. I have to remove the *thing* she's drawn towards. For the shower curtain, I'd suggest keeping the door closed. For the curtains, can you tie them back? Anytime she gets close, you could just say, "These aren't safe to play with. If you'd like to wrap up in something, let's play with this fabric." -- and that's assuming you have something else to redirect her too. You could buy a couple yards of super thin fabric from JoAnns, or grab a muslin baby blanket.

LO1 is 27 months - she loves to hide and one of her favorite hiding spots has always been behind the floor length drapes. I was never concerned before because she would just stand there, but recently she's taken to grabbing the side of the drape and spinning it fast around herself like a super tight cocoon. Not only am I worried that she's going to pull the rod off the wall and hurt herself, she's wrapping the fabric so tight around herself, it's entirely possible she could suffocate if someone wasn't watching her closely. I pull her out every time and and am very firm that this is dangerous and not a game but she will not stop. Tonight, I took her hanging canopy down after several warnings because she wouldn't stop twisting in the fabric and she literally cried for one second, and then took off into the bathroom and wrapped herself in the shower curtain. WTF! I have no idea how to stop this behavior. Obviously, she is being supervised extra closely these days, but accidents happen so quickly, I really need her to understand that this is not acceptable.
