Seconding lamariniere's Deva Curl recommendation when her hair is long enough. I have 3a curls, too, and love Deva Curl's cream. I put it in when my hair is wet and then wrap my head using the "plopping" method. It cuts down on frizz really well.

My 2.5 year old daughter has very curly hair, and I don't, so it's been a learning curve for me. What works for us now it that I spray it with kids detangling spray and use a kids curl creme, both that I found at Target. I spray it wet and put a little curl creme in, then comb it with a wide tooth comb and scrunch it. That's the best way to tame her curls. On daycare days, I just do the detangling spray. Her hair looks pretty crazy by the end of the day, but it's daycare anyway, and we need to be quick in the mornings. My daughter also looks like she has very short hair compared to the other girls in her class. It actually is past her shoulder blades when it's wet and I comb it straight, but after it curls up, it only comes to the base of her neck.

Like others have said, her hair is too short to do much yet. My DD and I both have ringlets. I use Deva Curl Cream when her hair is wet. Just comb it in with a wide tooth comb and don’t touch it after. Just let it air dry. Do not try to brush it when dry.

My DD has similar hair & while her hair is getting longer, I'm still in the scrunch-&-go-with-it mode. I have always used Paul Mitchells "The Conditioner" leave-in conditioner as my own styling aid for my loose curls, so have been using that for LO's tangles & to add a tiny bit of control to her crazy hair. People always compliment her on her great curls, but honestly she often looks like she "stirred it with a stick" as my mom always said about my sister's & my hair. 😂

@meadow: I wasn't sure of her hair type. Here is a great list of product lines for different curly hair types.

@meadow: full disclosure: I didn’t get my curly girls hair cut until she was 4.5, and she still sometimes goes to school with it not even combed. She’s 4. She loves her crazy hair and knows I love her crazy hair. But yeah I see other girls her age (and much younger) with crazy amounts of hair and my kids just don’t have a whole lot of hair.

@Anagram: @Foodnerd81: @crazydoglady: @Mrs. Turtle: thanks all for confirming that is TOO short.....thats a win for continuing to do basically nothing besides shampoo and go!!! Low maintenance mom for the win. All the kids her age at daycare have soooo much more hair and actually style it, i was worried that I was a bad mom.

I will keep the product suggestions for when its longer.

I always thought the shea products were for coarser hair. So glad to know that might be worth a try.

Another great leave in that is really light is kinky curly knot today. O's hair is much, much tighter, but is fine like this so gets weighed down by anything made for coarser hair. I like Shea moisture but I LOVE the kinky curly stuff. You could even start by mixing some with water in a spray bottle if she doesn't have enough hair for it full strength.

When her hair gets long enough, the Shea Moisture line for kids would probably be great.

I agree- it’s too short to do anything right now anyway. My older daughters hair is similar- on a dry day when she’s worn a hat, it’s just a little wavy. On a humid day right after bath it’s very curly. As it’s gotten longer I use a leave in conditioner spray after bath, and I spray it with water then the leave in conditioner in the morning before I use a wet brush on it. It still looks kind of crazy but I love it. But that short- it’s just gonna do what it wants.

@meadow: I think it's still so short, there's not much you can do. I think I started using hair products on my kiddo when her hair was 4-5 inches long, because if it was brushed it looked like a "bozo" hairstyle.

Until then I would just put little hair bows on the front bags and wood let the rest be crazy

I personally have curly/wavy hair. But wore it sorta straight until I was out of high school and someone showed me how to use moouse and scrunch it. I am a very VERY low maintenance type person and don't claim any expertise in the area of hair.

My DD has crazy hair. Sometimes it looks like tight curls - almost as tight as a pencil. Sometimes it is just off the wall crazy. Sometimes she has wide curls. Sometimes it just has a little wave and almost looks like she's straight haired (definitely after she wears a hat! and more often on the second day after bath day).

Should I keep riding the 'she's too little to care' train until I can't anymore? Should I be doing sometime to define her curls more?

Here are some pics....the wet hair is just water - not gel or anything.

One day I tried putting product in and it lasted for about an hour before she went back to nutso hair. Hah.
