@Mrs.Lion - love that Advent calendar idea!
@DeeryLou - growing up my family also did the gift of new pajamas on Christmas Eve night. I thought we were the only ones! Haha

I like to get some special ornaments with the year on them each year. M was only 2 weeks old last Christmas so this year should be a lot of fun.

We like to drive around on Xmas Eve to look at the Then we'll come home and watch a Christmas movie. I think I may start the cookies for Santa next year.

Looking forward to hearing the answers!

The day before Christmas eve (we called it Christmas eve-eve) my family would get together with my mom's closest friends and their families and we would make Christmas cookies and exchange gifts (the adults did secret Santa, there was a $10 limit on presents for the kids, I think). On the way home we would drive around and look at lights.

We always were allowed to open our annual ornament gift and one present of our choosing from under the tree on xmas eve.
Then on xmas morning, we opened stockings first and following presents we had a big breakfast/brunch together.

My mom gets an ornament for all the grandkids each year.

I love the book advent calendars. DH and I take at least one bight and go look at lights. I usually insist on a Sbucks run for peppermint hot chocolate on the way to look at lights.

Growing up, my family always went to the same tree farm to pick out a tree and we ate at the same restaurant on the way back. We always made a fun afternoon out of it.

We get together at my aunt's house on Christmas Eve to make the gumbo for Christmas dinner. When we are done, we do a gingerbread house with my cousins.

Traditions I grew up with:

Bundling up, and taking Christmas cookies and cocoa in the car, to look at holiday lights

Mixing rolled oats and glitter into velvet pouches and sprinkling on the lawn, to direct the reindeer

Unwrapping holiday pajamas before going to bed on Christmas Eve

Picking out a new ornament to represent the past year

Donuts at a 24 hour shop, after midnight mass

I bought an advent calendar and am going to add a holiday activity on a slip of paper for each day :) we choose an ornament to represent something special that happened that year to add to the tree (this was my parents tradition and we are continuing it).

It's our first holiday season with a little one and I would love to start some new family traditions. What Thanksgiving/Christmas/winter/other traditions do you do every year with your family?
