I have a pair of BareTraps. Even though they're suede material, they're still holding their shape/style great despite all the water/snow/ice I've put them through. They're also still water repellent after 4 years! They're also super warm and comfy. I have the black colored ones.

Another vote for Ugg Adirondacks! I have the short ones and I LOVE them. They are the only boots that always keep my feet warm all through winter. They are fine on slush/ice too. I have had mine for 3 years and they still look/feel great and I always get lots of compliments when I wear them.

@Greentea: ooh those are cute! And I love smartwool socks with all my heart. They're just so warm and cute and they wear well. Have you tried their tights? The pair I have is prickly, which I've never experienced with their socks or long johns. Maybe I washed them incorrectly. Thank you for the suggestions!
@WinterBee: oh I like those! I think my BFF has the pink and I've never seen the pair on the bottom. I'm going to try them on next time I'm in town! The Sorels I have are the old school puffy black ones that are at least twice as wide as my legs. Time to update!
@Foodnerd81: that's so cool that you were here during the spring. I've lived here most of my life and seeing the northern lights never gets old. Did you have fun? It's a weird town but it's absolutely beautiful. The people are even weirder :). When I moved up here I was stunned at how few people wore makeup or blow dried their hair. It's such a casual place, which makes sense when so many people live in dry cabins. If you ever make it this way again let me know!

I have some Patagonia snow boots (Lugano) that are a cross between cute and practical. They are pretty comfortable and kept my feet reasonably warm enough when I was on a trip to see the Northern lights in Fairbanks in March. But definitely not the cutest. I wear them pretty much every day from dec through March in boston but I'm fairly certain your winters are a little more intense. :) Beautiful, but intense.

I do Frye moto boots and Frye combat boots. (The moto slips on, good for pregnancy!) The two interchange well between skirts, dresses, skinny jeans, even under wide legs or flares. I wear smartwool socks and find my feet actually warmer than when I wear a stiff winter boot without flexibility.

@Mrs. Pen: thank you! I'll have to check those out.
@yoursilverlining: those are cute, thanks!

Thanks for the heads up about salt being hard on Uggs. Where I'm at, Fairbanks, AK, it's so cold in the winter salt doesn't work. Instead we put down gravel. But it's never slushy since it just stays cold, no freeze/thaw cycles here! Just frozen. Most of my walking is across parking lots. If I want to play outside I have some very practical but not too cute Sorrels.

Classic Uggs are not very good in winter, because rain/snow/slush will ruin them. Also, if your area uses salt to combat the snow, that will ruin them as well. They are also not waterproof, so your feet will get soaked in no time.

Ugg does make a real winter boot, the Ugg Adirondack which come in tall (calf height) and short (ankle). I have the tall and have had them for many years and they still look new – and I wear them every day mid-November through April. I get compliments on them all the time too!

Beloved's thread inspired me to ask about cute winter boots.

Starting in October and until the middle of April warm shoes and boots are necessary where I live. (10 above zero to 40 below with some snow. Eeww)
I need to pick up some cute winter boots that also won't look stupid with maternity skirts and dresses. Last time I was pregnant it was warm out and I lived in sandals and flats.
I have Manitobah Mukluks in the tall gatherer and a few pairs of classic Uggs and Sorrels. Any other ideas?
I am not sold on booties that are ankle height, I think they look weird, but it could be nice with a skirt where a higher boot would look stupid and bulky.
