We just cut ours today. We were paying almost $200 a month for phone (never used), cable, and internet. We dropped down to just internet, which we also upgraded to a higher speed. We are now paying $82 per month for that.

We share a Netflix account with my parents and we have Amazon prime. We also just signed up for PlayStation Vue, which seems pretty awesome so far. We are saving about $70 per month.

We stream on the Amazon Fire stick, Chromecast, iPad, and PlayStation 4. You can stream with up to 5 devices on PlayStation Vue.

We pay $30 or so for the 10 main channels, like the prime time ones, so that works for us. We also have Netflix and I watch Food Network through Plex. It's the only thing that works though, I think the rest of those channels are for Americans only.

We use a chromecast to cast Netflix and Plex to our TV.

We went cable free for a few years. We have an Apple TV and we stream Netflix and Hulu through it. We also buy certain shows iTunes that we can't get for free - i.e. Walking Dead. The only thing we missed was cbs shows. DH refused to pay for shows on broadcast channels. Oh and we had a digital antenna that got used a couple times for football games.

But thanks to quirks in pricing plans, we now have cable again. It was cheaper to get internet + tv than it was for internet alone. It's so bizarre. I didn't even use it for months after we got it. We did decide to reactive our TiVo, which we had cancelled along with cable and we've used it to watch Big Bang.

I really hate the cable experience versus Hulu though. Having to fast forward through commercials has gotten really annoying. I've been spoiled by Netflix and Hulu without commercials.

@snowjewelz: That's pretty much it. By the time we get home from work, do the bustle of dinner, bath, bedtime, cleanup, prep for tomorrow... we really only watch one show a day, MAYBE. And that's usually something DH has DVRed. It looks like we can find most of his shows through some streaming service, so I think we can do this.

@bubblegum: Can you get the disney junior app and pay a little to watch shows that way?

@JoyfulKiwi: I think that's probably the one hangup. DH loves his Discovery channel shows.

@emilye519: We only really watch football sports wise too. That sounds like a pretty good option to pick up more games.

I think we're definitely going to take the leap and cut the cord. We just don't watch enough TV to make the huge bill worth it. We already have Amazon Prime, so we'll probably just add on another streaming service or two to that.

We have AppleTV and subscribe to Hulu. We have Netflix but go back and forth on it (I don't use it when I'm not on maternity leave, for instance). We get Amazon Prime video with our subscription. The only thing extra we pay is NHL TV for hockey season, which is like $150 a year. We read online news. The only annoying thing is like Olympics coverage or something like that but that's so rare that it outweighs the enormous money savings. If we really want cable for something we can easily subscribe and turn it off again later.

We haven't had cable in years. We have Hulu which is $8 a month and we have a digital antenna (Mohu) it cost us about $20 and we get local channels. During football season we use sling which is $20 per month + $5 for the sports package so $25 total. We cancel sling when football season is over (so about 5 months total). Sling is going a promotion now that if you pay for 3 months in advance you get a free Roku. That could be a good option if you don't have a smart tv or other streaming device. Honestly, we could probably go without Hulu too, we just don't watch TV but love the voice

DH and I have been together for eight years and have never had cable. We use HuluPlus (but very sparingly and could probably get rid of it) and Netflix with a DVD addition- we can stream on my laptop or DH's XBox. We also recently invested in a set of rabbit ears so we could get local channels. DH manages a restaurant, so he can watch any sports we don't get through local channels at work (or maybe we don't get any games.... I'm totally not a sports person hahaha). I definitely feel that my family is not deprived of screen time without cable lol.

We have Roku and PlayStation Vue. Vue has some live local channels, but otherwise we have an antenna for local television. If you decide to do internet only through a cable company, I would suggest buying your own modem and router. The cable rental fees are crazy. We've not missed any live sports and haven't had to pay extra to watch.

We cut our satellite 3 years ago! And we are major tv watchers, as in the tv is on like 14 hours a day, even if we're not watching, it's as background noise. My internet bill is 85$ I have hulu 11$ a month and Netflix 10$ a month. We bought a mouleaf antennae for local channels, which gets me about 30(channels) which I use to watch the news and sports. My satellite bill was 190$ a month. So it's still a significant saving, considering I would have internet either way. Forgot to add we use a Roku

We have Chromecast, fire tv, Apple TV and one other and we use the fire thing the vast majority of the time. It's super easy and user friendly. We subscribe to Netflix and Hulu and have Amazon prime. I believe we mooch off of my in-laws for NFL Sunday ticket (I can't swear that's what it's called but it's some streaming option that comes with their package and they don't use.) We also use their login for HBO go. My husband gets baseball through MLB at bat but we are out of the blackout area since we no longer live in the city he roots for.

I believe we pay $40 or $50 for just internet through Xfinity. I know my husband haggled to get it that low but it's definitely possible.

We are coming up to our 1 year mark of no cable and I'm so glad we did. Honestly, I do miss some shows that we can't get easily (things on Discovery Channel, Food Network, HGTV, CBS, etc) but it's been worth the savings overall. Also, with 2 kids we don't really have that much time for television anyway! I don't know if we'd be watching those shows anyway.
We have a SmartTV so we watch using apps and have tried all the streaming sites (Amazon, HBO, Hulu, Netflix). We use mostly Hulu, especially during fall because it puts many current shows up the next day. Each service has pros and cons so I'd say try them all out (at once or on a rotating basis) to see which one(s) fit. Also, if you have an actual television with an antennae (not too expensive at electronic stores) you will get all the basic channels in real time. Our son loves PBS cooking shows now!
