Our local grocery store just recently announced they would no longer sell tobacco products either because they didn’t think it fit with their concern for the local community (or something to that effect). I don’t smoke, so I don’t really care either way. I saved HUNDREDS last year, got $12 extrabucks back Q4 alone. LOVE it.)</p> <p>The issue I can see though is that, at least in FL, they can sell alcohol (beer, wine, and I believe liquor) in their stores. Couldn't that be argued to be not aligning with their mission? Although you can partake in alcohol in moderation... not sure there's such thing as smoking in moderation. But I think the big differences between tobacco and the other things you've mentioned is the addictiveness of tobacco, and the fact that even in moderation smoking is terrible for you, whereas I'm a generally healthy person even though I drink a coke or have a bag of chips onces in a while. They felt tobacco products were not in line with their mission to provide health care products. They estimate they'll lose $2 Billion in annual revenues, and their stock is down 1.6% this morning. What are your thoughts? Good decision or bad decision?</p> <p>I think it's a great moral decsion and I actually think that in the long run it will be a good business decision as well. But man, but that's a big hit to revenue up front! </p>
