@simplyfelicity: I understand the relief to finally be out of limbo. Now you have a fresh start! It is totally possible to get KU after an anovulatory cycle. Don't be surprised if your light bleeding ends after only 3 days. That's what happened to me. Good luck!

Hey lady. I'm so sorry again for your loss--and even though I didn't have a chemical, I wanted to chime in and agree with @winniebee: --I think a long cycle post-MC is really normal. When I finally "finished" with my missed MC, I had a 54-day cycle. I have a good feeling for you....I think you're going to be back on track really soon!

TMI: Okay, so after about three days of very light spotting, I started to actually have a flow. It's still really light compared to my normal heavy periods but I definitely needed a pad. It reminds me of my typical flow on like cd 4 or so. My periods typically start off immediately with a heavy flow. All of this makes me think I had an anovulatory cycle this month. Would I consider this CD 1?

I'm in the first cycle post-miscarriage and I ovulated about a week late. So I'm on CD34 right now and this cycle will probably be a total of 36 or 37 days, when my cycles are normally 28. Could just be a late ovulation.

@NerdBee: My goodness are you knowledgeable! So whether I didnt O or I just O'ed late, I will get a "period" of sorts?

I am guessing that eventually you have your "period" because your body finally gets the memo that you aren't going to ovulate this cycle but, in the meantime, but my body hasn't figured it out so it is spotting to maintain the quality of the lining.

I am going to give it a few more days and then go to my OB. Thank you SO much.

@simplyfelicity: I'd say strong cramps are a good sign, at least a sign that you might be on the other side of this confusing cycle soon  But, my RE was concerned because she said that sometimes (not always), spotting can indicate a hormone problem (progesterone, estrogen, prolactin, etc.). I had spotting in addition to a late O (usually around day 21), and so the combination of late O and spotting made her think that my hormones were off and could have been causing early mc's. But, all the test results came back normal! In your case, I wouldn't be too concerned about spotting yet, because from what I hear MANY women with spotting can still go on to have successful pregnancies!

@Kbee: Yes, this is my second cycle off BCP. I was on it for about 5 months or so, got a BFP the first cycle off, CP and now this weird cycle. I am getting some really strong cramps...so hopefully this is a good sign. You are right, this is my first month TTC without a BFP so I might have just never noticed these things. Also, why was your RE concerned? I am going to make an appointment if I don't have AF in a few more days.

@simplyfelicity: I'm not sure if you can count your spotting as breakthrough bleeding since it was so light that you didn't even need a pad. And you are only CD 35 or 36 right? I would give it 4 or 5 more days.

I think the reason why there is breakthrough bleeding with anovulatory cycle is because the uterine lining has gotten so thick that it cannot sustain itself so it sheds just enough so that it can continue to thicken. That may explain the lighter than usual bleeding.

But there is hope! I got my BFP with DS in the cycle right after my anovulatory cycle. If this is an anovulatory cycle for you I hope next month is your month!

I had 2 back to back CP's a few months ago. After my second, my cycle was WAY longer than usual. I may have still O'd (not sure?), but it was 9 days later than usual based on OPKs, and my cycle was 40 days in total. The bleeding I had that cycle was somewhat light, but still seemed close enough to a normal period that I felt confident about counting it as CD1 (and my RE did as well). I think it's fairly common for cycles after early mc's to be out of whack. Do you have an OB you can talk to about your breakthrough bleeding? Just so that you can try and understand more about whether what you're experiencing now is "CD 1" or not?

Also, I think I read in another thread that this is one of your first cycles off of BCP? Maybe you ovulated and you are just having spotting before AF, and this is just the first cycle you are noticing this pattern. Each of my BFN cycles I have had 4 days of spotting before AF, and it was something my RE was concerned about.

I hope that you learn more about what's going on in the next few days, I know it's such a hard place to be in!! So like winniebee said, hang in there!!

@simplyfelicity: I don't think so -- my bleeding lasted a little liger than normal and the cycle was just strange. Weird cramping and I kept thinking AF was coming any day for awhile. I definitely did ovulate because I barely ever have cm and then around day 32 had copious amounts and 13 days later got my period. They regulated again after that cycle but were still longish for a few more (30-35 days).

After my miscarriage I had a 45 day cycle which is incredibly long for me. Ovulated around day 32 (tell tale cramps and cm). I actually think it's more common than not to have a super long cycle post miscarriage. I remember when I was really wanting my period I posted a poll on weddingbee and 6 weeks was the most common answer for how long it took post mc to get it back. Hang in there!!

@NerdBee: So, unless REAL AF, shows up soon, I can count myself on CD 2? Like I said, it is so incredibly light. This may seem like a silly question but if I don't bleed a lot, where does the lining go? Does it just wither internally (oy, what an image.) This really helps a lot!

@simplyfelicity: yup when you don't ovulate you don't get a real period because you don't get the drop in hormones which triggers the shedding of your uterine lining. Instead you just get breakthrough bleeding when it has been so long that your uterine lining cannot sustain itself any longer. But according to TCOYF you can count breakthrough bleeding as CD1. Hope that is helpful.
