@maddyz: that sounds like my experience on hormonal BC in general - I've been on the pill and Nuvaring. I had no idea how much it affected me until I was TTC and...never again. Not for me!

I had a hormonal IUD and removal was the biggest relief. I had stopped having periods and my first one after was epioc. I had not realized how much it was effecting me until it was out.

Thank you, @lamariniere. This is exactly what I needed to hear. Interesting to hear about your possible other symptoms. There are a few random other symptoms that I'm wondering now if could be related.

It's also interesting to hear that your cycles were bad after years with the IUD! I apprecuate your response.

I had the copper iud for 4.5 years and got it out a little more than a month ago. My periods were horribly long and heavy on it. I had some other symptoms too, but I’m not sure if they were iud related. Although, I had started having heart palpitations a few months before the removal, especially after eating, and the palpitations completely ceased after removal.

This may be a little TMI, but I was looking for info like this before my removal, so I’ll share what I went through. I had the iud removed basically the day before my period was supposed to start. That period was more or less the same as with the iud, so same heavy flow and like 8 days long. I just finished my first iud-free cycle yesterday and that period was very strange. It started like normal and I had light bleeding for half a day. Then basically nothing for 3-4 days, then very light bleeding for another 3 days. I use a cup, so I could definitely see what was going on. I probably could have just used panty liners the entire time because there was so little blood, but we were at the beach. So it was a vast improvement, but still pretty long. I’m curious to see how my body will sort itself out over the next few cycles.

I'm throwing in the towel - I can't handle how Paragard is affecting me. I thought it was a good option because I am trying to avoid hormonal BC

My periods are long and very heavy, I am getting more severe PMS including bloating, a symptom I have never had before, and my husband has commented on my mood several times lately. I've had it in for about 10 months.

Anyone experiencing the same thing? I'm wondering how quickly symptoms will abate - specifically what to expect for my next period. My removal appointment is a few days before my next period is due.
