I had a much larger freezer stash with my first than I do now with my second. I am basically doing the same thing though, each day I thaw out milk and the bottles are both fresh and thawed (all refrigerated and cold before mixing). I found this worked for us since I hope to use my stash for the weaning phase and keep the baby on breast milk longer without pumping. The milk is usually always less than 6 weeks old in the freezer.

@lilyofthewest: This is exactly what I did. I always froze what wasn't used by Friday and used frozen for Monday.

I made sure to use the last out. I pumped more then my kids drank in a day so I needed to stay on top of rotating a very large freezer stash. I would freeze milk flat and then up it into two plastic trays that fit the milk storage bags standing up. One side would be fresh milk and the other would be the older milk. I also found it easy to store groupings of the bags in freezer bags because I had more than would fit in my containers. I would store 4oz per bag because I found it much easier to deal with thawing single servings and LO2 liked 4oz at a time (LO1 drank more).

I didn’t have much of a stash before going back to work. Maybe 30 oz? I would do what @lilyofthewest: did and freeze Friday’s milk. Although he went through a bottle refusal stage so I was able to freeze a little but more during that time. If I noticed some milk was nearing 1 month old I would use frozen milk for a few days and just freeze what I pumped.

Even though Friday’s milk would’ve kept in the fridge fine for Monday, I always put Friday into the freezer and took my oldest freezer milk out for Monday. Given the stash I’d built up before returning to work and the occasional extra bit I was able to freeze, Monday’s milk was usually about 3 weeks old.

Thank you for reminding me to do this! I'm curious to see what others are choosing to do. I had the same issue with old, frozen milk for my first girl.

What is your method of cycling through your pumped milk in the freezer. With DD I just kept adding milk to the freezer and ended up with milk that was a few months old before feeding it to her. Now I'm trying to make sure I feed DS2 the milk while it is as fresh as possible so I am alternating between giving fresh pumped milk and thawed milk from the freezer. How did you cycle through your freezer stash?
