If you have a friend or family member you can stay with during the storm, that might set your mind at ease. Otherwise get lots of activities together to entertain you and LO, particularly ones that don't require power. If you feel your home is prepared then your main job is to keep calm and distracted mentally. Hopefully you will be able to call or text DH periodically to check in. I think you'll be fine! Stay safe!

@Ree723: yeah it's pretty windy already and pretty much coming straight for us. DH has to work tomorrow and has to go unless it's red alert. If red alert happens whilst he is at work he'll have to stay there. :-( we are prepared I just really don't want to be home alone with bub.

Oh goodness, I forgot you were up on the north coast of WA! I don't have any practical advice as I haven't been through a cyclone before, but I hope all is ok and it passes you by quickly! I'm assuming you have a cyclone kit prepared and have water stored in the tub/containers? Is there any chance your DH won't have to go to work tomorrow, or get off early to get home and bunker down with you and LO?

I'll be thinking of you and hoping all is ok....

@Mrs squirreld: I think that's were the term hurricane parties comes from. There often isn't much to do to pass the time. Grab some movies or games or HB!

I'm from fL so I know all about hurricanes.

If the categories are the same a three can be damaging but you should be safe. The worst would be if a tornado came though with it.

Here are some preparations my family would make:

- bolt doors
- duct tape in a "x" shape to prevent windows from breaking
- fill bathtubs with fresh water
- get cash and fill cars with gas (ATM and card readers are down without power after the storm passes)
- get out box of flashlights and candles
- box up in plastic bins photo books and tapes and put them on a high shelf or bed.
- stay in interior rooms.

Hope you are safe and your DH can return home. The worst is the wind and never ending rain.

Urghhhhh. We've just gone on yellow alert for a cat 3 cyclone here (Australia)which is the same as your hurricanes I think. And ofcourse I'm home alone with a 3 month old and never experienced one before. It's supposed to hit the worse tomorrow when DH will be back at work :-( which means he'll most likely get stuck there when we go to red alert.

Anyone got any tips for passing the time/staying relaxed when it passes over? Hopefully our power won't drop out so I can hangout on HB!
