I hope everything has gone well! They used Cytotec on me and there were no problems. But it didn't work, either so they they had to try a few more things afterward!

My pretty crunchy hospital used it to induce me at 38 weeks. I had an awesome labor and didn't even need pictocin!

So, I had read all the scary things that people say about cytotec, and I was surprised when my (hospital based, but very crunchy) midwife said that it was an option that they sometimes used. I am a HUGE researcher, but I trusted them. I'd have used it if they felt it was the best choice.

I was induced with one fraction of a pill of cytotec and I was in full on labor 5 hours later! It did, ahem, loosen my bowels (known side effect). Start to finish, my labor was only 16 hours!

Good luck!!!

Everyone, thank you so so much for chiming in. Seriously, after reading your stories I feel 100% less anxious about today. I have plenty of questions before we start the process, but I am no longer panicked feeling like I was when we got home. I had a little cry last night--just the overwhelming feeling that our life is truly about to change, emotional about our last night at home just the two of us, and your reassurances really made me feel better. DH and I had a wonderful chat before bed and I slept like a baby (except for only one pee wake up!) We are waiting the L&D call to go in...this is it! Thank you again!

I was also induced with it, and no problems! They gave me one dose around 12:00am, which helped me dilate to 1.5cm, 70% effaced (I was not dilating AT ALL on my own, even at 41 weeks). My OB was happy with that progression, so around 4:00am, I was given Pitocin to further the induction process. Long story short, I ended up with a c-section, but that had nothing to do with the cytotec. My baby was born perfectly healthy!

Best of luck! :)

I was induced with it! Have one dose at 3pm, then had a dose of cervidil at 7pm (had it overnight) then had a second dose of cytotec around 10am? Maybe earlier- started pitocin after that and labored till nighttime when they broke my water- got an epidural (it didnt work) got a second one (that did work) My baby was born at 12:51 the 3rd day from the initial dose and is healthy and perfect! Good luck!

@maybebaby: hey! I know we have the same hospital :) I was given paperwork with 'cytotec' on it and posted the very same thing here, only to be told when I went in that it was old paperwork & they don't use it anymore :) they used cervidil on me and I didn't even need pitocin. With the cervidil my water broke on its own and I went into labor immediately. Stay off your back though, back labor sucks!
good luck! They're awesome over there & will take good care of you!!

ETA: this is what the top of that old form looks like:

I was induced with cytotec. I discussed my concerns with my midwife and bc the dose they use is so much smaller than what the scary Internet stories talk about, I was comfortable. I had two 1/4 pill doses, one at 10 am and one at 1:20 pm. My water broke at 5 pm and I was complete by 9:45 pm. We were monitored and healthy all the way through.

Best of luck!

I was induced with it, also known as misopropal. They used a small amount at a time (like 1/4 of a pill) and monitored us both very closely. At any sign of distress they would have not given another dose and started another means of induction. Doses are 4 hours apart to make sure that there are no complications. The doses I received were 1/4 at 10 p.m., 1/2 pill at 2 a.m. and I think another 1/2 pill at 6 a.m.

I posted several updates during my induction. Read it here: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/at-the-hospital-induction-underway

My midwives gave me a few rounds of cytotec before moving on to a foley balloon and then ultimately to Pitocin for my induction at 38 weeks. I felt comfortable with this progression of interventions, as I knew that my kid needed to be born sooner rather than later.

I ended up giving birth vaginally about 27 hours after the first round of cytotec was inserted. I pushed for less than 30 minutes and didn't tear. My kid was in perfect health.

Good luck!

I would just ask for something else. From my understanding there are studies being done now for proper use & dosage but that's still in tow. Lots of woman have had it & been fine, but to me that's the same as all the drunk drivers that made it home safely tonight... Just because you came out fine doesn't mean it's advised.

Sorry to here about the leak!!! Get some rest & good luck in the a.m.

Long story short, I have been leaking amniotic fluid for at least 24 hours and they sent us home to get a good night's sleep before induction tomorrow. The mention of cytotec scared the bejesus out of me, because I have read some very scary information about it. We are delivering in a very med-free friendly midwife practice, a birthing center attached to a hospital. The mention of cytotec scared me, but at midnight the night you are to be induced I didn't really get to ask all the questions I wanted to. Anyone's experience with cytotec that could put my mind at ease OR give me some information to discuss with them tomorrow before they start the process would be amazing...in the meantime, going to try to get some sleep before the start of this journey!
