@dc yoga bee: if you have back issues, definitely look into the onya or similar, the ergo is not nearly as ergonomic! Haha, just noticed that's probably where they got the name :silly:

@dc yoga bee: have you looked into any baby wearing groups where you live? I'm in Toronto and there is a baby wearing group that meets monthly to teach about wrapping/slings/different carriers, and they have a lending library so you can try on the different types of carriers before buying. It might be something to search on facebook before making the investment!

That said, I have a Beco Soleil that DH and I both love (I bought the scribble pattern so he would wear it!) We use the insert, because my DD is a bit of a slow grower and is only 11lbs at 3 months, and needs to be 15lbs to go without. I don't mind using the insert, but it can get a bit warm... just something to consider.

@dc yoga bee: I think that's a great idea! Lots of people don't do the inserts anyway, thy just roll up a receiving blanket underneath baby's bum/feet until they're big enough for legs out! You guys will love the Tula!

@avivoca: @GoGoSnoGirl: I love the look of slings, but I'll be honest and say that we are very intimidated. Maybe down the road, once we've mastered the soft carriers!

@MoonMoon: I like the look of that one! I never thought we would seriously babywearing given my back, but it calms lo so much!

@mfa_lady: The beco doesn't need a newborn insert, so we don't have any. She' was 7.5lbs already at her 2 week apt from the 5.4lbs when she was born. So, I'm not sure if it's worth it to order a newborn insert, or just tell DH to wait to use his present for a couple weeks :p I'm leaning towards a black Tula!

I think the Lillebaby is definitely worth checking out for you guys. The lumbar support is a great addition. We also really love our mei tai, maybe slightly less "husband friendly" since it takes a bit of time to get used to (esp for a newborn) but it's a great convenience.

@jedeve: we got the onya when DS was about 9 months old and it's a game changer! We can adjust really easily between the two of is, and DH and I are very different heights/sizes. That thing has paid for itself many times over and is so comfy for everyone compared to the ergo.

@dc yoga bee: I should admit--I didn't use the Beco until my babe was 2 or 3 months old, so she held herself up much better than a newborn, which was helpful for the take-off. I LOVE our Tula. I had back issues, and it's by far the most comfortable for me. Very easy to get on and off, and easy to adjust in order to do so. (That's my issue with the Ergo--for us, for some reason, it's tough to adjust properly with just one person.)

Do you have the Ergo insert? I just saw a picture on one of the Tula FB groups the other day of someone using one in a Tula the other day! I think you could definitely make that work. If not, you could probably use a rolled up blanket!

@dc yoga bee: We both use and love our Ergo. If we got a second carrier, I would probably get a Tula.

Are you guys interested in wrapping? There is definitely a learning curve, but they come in different sizes which may make for a better fit for your husband. I'm a sometimes wrapper and I like it (though H is not a huge fan).

@Truth Bombs: He's 5'10, and about 220. Comfort in the midsection is always a must, thanks!

@mfa_lady: Wow! The beco Gemini is hard for both of us to take off. Especially, when we are trying to take it off with one hand, and keep a hand on the baby. Those safety buttons are cumbersome! We also don't like the dangling straps everywhere. How is the Tula? I don't want to buy the newborn insert to use up to 12lbs when she's already 7.5.

@dc yoga bee: We have a Tula, a Beco Gemini, an Ergo, and a Boba wrap. (Whoa. Writing that all out is a little intense. Haha!) DH likes the Ergo the best, but that's because it's the plainest one we have. Ha! My Tula is hot pink and purple. :) In my opinion, the Tula and the Beco are MUCH easier to get on and off, so I'd do a neutral Beco or one of the plain Tulas if you can find them in stock.

But also, maybe your DH is more coordinated than we are and the Ergo will be a piece of cake for him. ;)

I will just caution that if your DH is a big guy the ergo might not work. My husband is really large (6'6" 250) and the ergo doesn't fit comfortably around his midsection.

Bump!

I have a pink beco Gemini because DH said he had no interest in babywearing. Well, now that she's here, not only do we both love it, but it's the only thing that calms her when she cries from 4pm-8pm every day (colicky anyone?) He is fine with the pink, but it's annoying to constantly keep adjusting the straps between the both of us, and Father's Day is coming up!
