I think we worry more about child abductions than getting hit by a car, but the latter is more likely and just as dangerous. What if a stranger tried to lure her into his car, or she didn't look both ways and walked into traffic... He couldn't prevent most things that parents worry about the most when their kids walk to school. He would just see it happen and not be able to do anything about it. </p> <p>So I don't think it really acts as protection. I don't really see it as different than actually walking with her (well, maybe a little more lazy ;-) ) But when I first read the topic of this thread, I thought it was more like monitoring her to make sure she's doing what she's supposed to be doing -- like with an older girl, keeping an eye out for her staying out too late or something.
