We never really did anything crazy, maybe just dinner or something, but I loved spending time with him. My dad spent time with the boys while coaching their sports teams so this was how he spent time with me. I think it's important for a parent to spend some alone time with each of their children. </p> <p>My dad and I still have "dates" every once in awhile. Usually it's during Christmas season where we'll meet to go shopping for my mom's gifts and then dinner. (Mostly father daughter dance type things) I think its important and so does DH. </p> <p>My Dad would take me to dinner, and then we would go to the dance. It taught me how a gentleman should act on a date, what was approprate and what wasn't. We still go on "dates" where we pick a movie or go to lunch and I am almost 30. To me those were precious memories that I wouldn't change or short change my future DD. </p> <p>My mom also did this with both of my brothers. They got to be the "man" and take mom on a date. They got to learn how to be perfect gentlemen and date ettiqute. They've also done outings together (to the library, to the park, etc...) on occasion. I hope, as our kids get older, we can make it a more frequent thing to spend one-on-one time with each of our kids! </p> <p>@HabesBabe: There's a "daddy daughter prom" event up here where the men and their daughters get all dressed up and go dance the night away. Right now they go for lots of walks, to the park, she's been to a couple of restaurants w/DH and his friends. They already do things together without me, DH will take her places to give me time to relax. My dad would bring mc donalds and take me out of the cafeteria, we'd eat it outside of school and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
