@ineebee: My friend had a similar experience, only her DH does substantially less than his share still. Her dad announced "seeing how much [your DH] does makes me realise just how much you mum took care of when you were kids." Her DH was like "see, I do more then most men!". My friend was furious!

I do the laundry because my husband takes care of mowing/weed wacking/etc. our yard. I think I got the better end of the deal, he is a sweaty mess in the summers here in NC!

This is exactly what happened to my very traditional Korean dad a few months ago! After he saw me with the baby and realized all I did, he thanked my mom for everything she had done when she was raising us and started helping out around the house a lot more! So so so sweet.

This sends a good message, men should help around the house so that their kids can learn from them. Alot of times men dont help around the house because their father didnt do that with their mom. Women are not slaves, they are human too and it would make life so much easier if our men helped us around the house. Thank god my husband helps me alot and I always tell him how much I appreciate it.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: I agree. But I'd like to feel I can put some faith into humanity. If the old generation doesn't change, at least we can inspire the new generation. =)

It's never too late to make a change. I mean, I'm a proud feminist, and I can go on to nit-pick that the dad shouldn't say he's "helping" but, in fact, should be just doing his share. But, progress should be encouraged and celebrated.

I thought this ad was so lovely but totally unrealistic/fantasy land because the world never works this way it seems to me! It is always the responsibility of the put upon person to maintain boundaries. People who benefit from the status quo don't have much motivation to change. I read an article a few weeks ago about leaning out. Not from work but from "women's work" and letting the husbands move in. To me that seems more realistic.

Love this ad! My DH is pretty good about equal chores but HIS dad is waited on hand and foot. It makes me so mad! I don't want my girls to feel that is how marriages should be.

@regberadaisy: It was produced by BBDO Worldwide for Ariel, which is a detergent used in India. I thought it was such an excellent ad!

That being said, the only reason i do laundry is because i'm anal with the sorting. Haha, but at least he folds. I have many friends who married their boyfriends with the thought that they were progressive and all about being equal partners...but in the end, they want to replicate what their parents had growing up, which was a situation where the mom did everything.
