@owlmom: i have thought of that, but i don't that is it just yet. he will typically take his 2 naps mon-friday and when he skips one, he is a total wreck. sooo cranky, whiny, showing all signs of fatigue - just refusing to sleep. i also know from the year i spent with him that there is an optimal window of when to get him down for a nap and i feel like i must be missing the mark on the weekends now since i am back at work. it also happened sometimes during my year off, because in general our routine was differnet when DH was home on weekends. Also, i used to be better at putting him down for naps because he would nurse to sleep. he stopped doing that and so i feel like it is hit or miss for a number of reasons.

@Beehive: thanks for the input. i did come across this the other day and they had a toddler log which was more suitable. i just wanted to make some edits and couldn't so i am making more own instead so i can cover everything or eliminate what i don't need. for example, i don't need/want to track how many wet diapers.

I'm a SAHM, so I don't have a lot of input on the log, but I have a thought on naps. Is your LO possibly ready to drop to one nap? That could be why you're having nap difficulties. Most kiddos drop their morning nap sometime between 12 and 18 months. Just something else to consider.

I love having a nanny log, it's really helpful to see when he napped and for how long, what he ate, how much he drank, etc. I just print out this: http://www.babyslog.com/babyslog.pdf

It covers most of what you mention, and it's easy to make more copies!

Get the Babyconnect app! You can just add her to the account. Much easier to see graphs of everything and plenty of places for notes. AND you can get real-time updates throughout the day.

@Mamaof2: good idea, though we take a BLW approach so i am not too concerned with how much he eats. DH and I just make sure there is always a variety of stuff in the fridge. We also do breakfast and supper with him. Nanny does lunch and snack.....but I will add snack time to the list, I forgot!

@Bluebonnet: I think i will add that i want to know what he ate rather than how much. especially for snacks since i am never really sure what he has for snacks. We leave plenty of options for lunch (so I already have a sense of what he is eating since we prepared it). I also skype with him at lunch everyday.

Maybe i will also put another column just for mood! so one for activities, mood, and notes.

Do you have a friend with kids in daycare? If so, ask to see their daily sheet - it how daycares communicate to parents.

For infants/toddlers the daily sheet usually lists:
- bottle times/how many ounces
- meal times/snack times and how much the child ate
- diaper change times and if the diaper was wet or dirty
- nap time (start and end)
- our daycare lists activities that day - art projects, story time, playground time, etc
- notes (what LO particularly enjoyed, or other notes to the parents)
- child's mood (happy, sad, cranky, tired, sick, etc)

@californiadreams:  It must be very hard. If he's anything like the girls, favourite toys ate anything that aren't toys, lol. we've had the most fun with tuppawear, spoons and water cups today :)

@travelgirl1: yes, and i don't always want to spend so much time talking at the end of every day because time is limited until he goes to bed! So this will be more effective in communicating more information. I don't even know what his favorite toys are now :( so i figure it is better to know than not know. even though i am still sad i am not the one with him everyday.

@californiadreams: I would make it two columns. Aw that's a shame, the chart should definitely help with the schedule issues then. It might help the nanny too. I've thought about doing something like this too, because sometimes during hand off at the end of the day there are things you forget to mention, then I end up texting it or Facebooking it later.

@travelgirl1: that's why I put the last column for "Notes". I will explain that it can be good or bad - so his mood, any activities, etc. Maybe I can break it into 2 columns though. One for daily activities and one for anything extra to note that day. One reason I am doing this now finally (i've thought about it before) is because we never even made it to the drop in center on saturday because he didn't nap that morning after waking up at 5:30am, it was a horrible day. then sunday i had to work on my thesis :(

We've had a had a nanny full time since i went back to work almost 2 months ago. my LO is 14.5 months old. I didn't bother with charts or logs at first because I didn't think it was necessary since they are at home. But lately DH and I have the hardest time getting LO to nap on the weekends! It is affecting him too. he looks tired and is cranky and our weekends are not fun which sucks because that is when we get the most time together.

So I am thinking we need to be super rigid with maintaining the same schedule 7 days/week and so I decided to make a daily log/chart for us and the nanny to fill out. We will keep it up on the weekends too.

I am just wondering what should be included. This is what I have so far:

Wake up time
Breakfast Time
Morning nap start, finish, length
Lunch Time
Afternoon nap start, finish, length
Supper Time
Bed Time
Poo (yes/no/during nap?)
Notes (Mood, activities, food, etc.)

** I put a column for poo because OFTEN he poos during his nap which wakes him and results in a super short, or no, nap.

What do you think? It is too much/overkill? Anything I should add or take out?
