I listen to NPR/BBC throughout the day & read The Hill & Wa Post.

Thanks for your link @Anagram: . I have family members who could use frequent reminders about what sources are trustworthy or not. I like to share things like this to try & allow them to discover the errors of their sensational sources without pointing it out directly. It's hard not to cause rifts within the family in this time of actual fake news & the "fake news!" defense of news that people just don't like to hear.

I like NPR but they are so disgustingly liberal I pulled our monthly donation after the election. I still listen though because it is the best out there lol. I'm going to check out some of these recommendations! And yeah Fox News is not even really fun to watch. I'm happy that they finally pulled oreilly since his show wasn't even good but Tucker isn't much better.

@youboots: Just because you mentioned that you "lean right", but you also want news of substance--

You (and everyone on this thread!) should really check out mediabiasfactcheck.com. It's extremely academic in how it categorizes different news sources (read about their categorization process). It's also a really exhaustive list and also has categories for "conspiracy-pseudoscience" and "questionable" and how they categorize news sources that fall under those headlines.

A small example: "natural news" pops up on my FB feed a lot from people sharing it. But that falls under the "pseudoscience" category, for good reason. But so many people I know share articles for Natural News, I feel like there must be so many people out there that have no clue and don't bother looking it up.

Anyway, I highly recommend it.

The Skimm is great (an email newsletter) if you just want a quick condensed version of the previous day's big stories. I read that first thing at work. I have WaPo open in my browser all day at work, too, and will pop over to check out headlines and read something if it looks interesting/important. I used to have NPR on in the car in the morning, but stopped doing that for a variety of reasons.

Maybe look into newsletter options? Most major papers now send digests through email so you can pick and choose what type of news you want to receive. That way you don't have to filter through the trending headlines and can read more of what you want

Usually there's a "Newsletters & Alerts" link at the bottom of the homepage

For political news, maybe consider the Politico Playbook? It's a daily digest of their top stories they send through email. So you get briefs on a lot of things, but can choose what you read more about. Sort of similar to the Hill, but I think it's slightly more accessible to people who aren't working in politics.
