@mrsjyw: thank you! I'm going to cut dairy and soy to see if it helps. Ugh sucks but I hate seeing him in pain from gas, hoping it helps.

@NovBaby1112: I did! And it did help w the congestion and lil mucous in his dipes, he also took Zantac from 6w-2.5 months. He's 4 months on the 15th, He still spits up sometimes but way less than before. My letdown has calmed down and my supply has regulated. I tried dairy again and his dipes the last couple days have been hit or miss mucuousy so I think he has a mild dairy intolerance. I'm going to avoid again though just to be safe. He's always eaten and slept well throughout this whole time though! Good luck with your boy. Hope it's a mild case of at all!

@mrsjyw: she had the chunky spitup after most feedings, sometimes a lot if I had recently had dairy. Her congestion was enough that about once a day I'd use the nose frida and get a yucky boogie from each nostril. The spitup and congestion totally went away after altering my diet.

My LO was a fussy baby. Since he is my first I just thought it was normal. "Oh it's a wonder week" "Must be another growth spurt" "Guess he's just not an easy baby"
It got progressively worse and worse and finally at 10w he had blood tinged mucus in his diaper. I had been subsisting on milk shakes because he had to be held all the time to keep it to fussing with some crying and screaming for good measure (but goodness don't put him down, that made it worse!).

Basically my point is it started out exactly as you describe but instead of getting less fussy by week 8 or so, it just got worse and worse very quickly.

@mrsjyw: excessive spit up and mucus in the stool. When she got a little older she also had a few specks of blood every now and then which is how we knew she had more intolerances we had to deal with.

@Truth Bombs: what symptoms did your LO have?

@ladybee: so the amount isn't too much definitely less than a tablespoon the times it's been the cottage cheese consistency. How much is a lot?

@travelgirl1: of course today he's hardly spat up and doesn't sound congested. But that usually flares up at night. Does t like being held a lot too? More than "normal"?

I'm still going dairy free to see if that helps. I agree that I don't think it's reflux because he doesn't seem to be in pain and the swallowing spit up is rare if at all now.

@rosegold: yea I have been reading the ww app and not generally concerned w his fussiness. It's more the strings of mucous and his nighttime congestion that is of concern to me.

My LO had lots of food intolerances but was never particularly fussy and slept and ate well. So I don't buy into the idea that if LO is happy there is nothing to worry about. If an intolerance is happening it can still be doing damage even if baby is handling it well. I would cut both dairy and soy for 3-4 weeks just to see if it helps improve symptoms. So many babies who are dairy intolerant are also soy intolerant so it's more efficient to just cut them both at first.

M had the cottage cheese spit up, a ton of it, congestion and mucus poop. Otherwise be was calm, easy going and never turned down a bottle. He would get very very fussy about 45 minutes to an hour after eating. Plus his eczema was getting worse. DH and I both couldn't tolerate dairy as babies so I went straight to soy.

The sky allergy came about when he got the flu from daycare at 2 months. He projectile vomited every feed for almost a month (he went on zofran). Our ped was amazing and after about two weeks and trying other formulas we went to a GI.

This pretty much describes T too. But then A was the same and I was convinced she must have a dairy allergy (lots of them in my family) because of the mucous in the stools, even though all the doctors said mucous could be very normal. T has mucous too but this time I am not worried. So I'm not much help to you, just wanted to say that mucous in stools can be normal.

The biggest signs of MSPI with my first were: cottage-cheese looking spit up, mucous in stools (eventually tiny strings of blood around 3 months after I ate a big dairy meal) and nasal congestion. While everything you described does fit this bill, it could also be normal. That being said, I would still definitely cut out dairy and maybe even soy out of your diet for a solid two weeks and see if there's improvement. Not the most fun but worth it just to be sure. :)

Ds2 is 5.5 weeks old. He's a relatively calm baby and hasn't shown the obvious signs of dairy allergy or silent reflux but has mild symptoms that's making my mama instinct think he may have a mild case. I'm not really sure though if it's common newborn symptoms in general or if it is a sensitivity or reflux.

He has spitup sometimes that looks like cottage cheese. Or spits up what seems more than a tablespoon. But he's gaining and growing like a champ. He also doesn't fuss during feedings. He sometimes coughs/chokes during nursing though, and I don't think my letdown is fast. He has also spit up a lil bit and swallowed it back down.

He has yellow seedy diapers but sometimes there's strings of mucous.

He is also congested at nighttime, I can hear it in the back of his nose and throat ( though he did catch ds1's head cold at three weeks ). He grunts a lot too and is gassy sometimes.

I'm confused because he's generally a really calm and happy baby and sleeps well in his crib and actually dislikes the swing. He usually does a 4 hour stretch from 8-12 and then the rest of the night he wakes every 2.5-3 hours and catnaps a lot with one or two longer naps during the day (2-3 hours). But the above "symptoms" have me wondering if he might have a sensitivity.

If your lo had either of these did they have obvious signs? Anyone with similar mild symptoms?

I'm going dairy free just to see if there's an improvement or if I'm just overthinking normal infant things!
