@gilmoregirl: so I was off it for 10 days and saw noticeable results. She was never a screaming spitter, but she would spit constantly, constantly, constantly, and for hours after she ate. Before I went off, we also had a week of congestion and complete meltdowns for no obvious reason. Those diminished DRAMATICALLY within a week. Dh and I thought it still could be a coincidence, even if it was unlikely. I had cheese and butter this weekend, though, and the projectile spit, bouts of screaming, and grumpy baby came right back. So, back to no dairy I go. I'm hoping it doesn't take too long this time.

I hope that you and B find something that works for you!

Coconut milk ice cream is excellent. I don't know about the yogurt. Or how about smoothies with frozen fruit and coconut milk and bananas - it should give you a similar mouthfeel as yogurt. Bob's Red Mill makes something called Scottish oatmeal - its like a pulverized oatmeal that has a lighter, almost pudding-like, delicious texture that's different from rolled or quick oats. I like cooking it up with some fresh peaches and cinnamon and nuts and its like peach cobbler! Enjoy Life brand makes allergen free chocolate chips are really delicious, you can use that too!

Daiya cheese is a vegan cheese replacement that melts really nicely - I bet you can make a quick little pizza for a snack on a tortilla or English muffin too.

@gilmoregirl: No, it's not at my regular store. I'm sure some have them, but mine has a really limited selection for dairy-free yogurts (and no Greek options). I find it at a local natural and organic store.

@lovelyplum: How long have you been off dairy? Is it helping with spit up? I'm not seeing any changes, but I guess it's only been five days...

@gilmoregirl: we had mucus in the poop (and sometimes specs of blood) and lots of spit up. But she was not super fussy or anything like that. She eventually ended up with some rashes too. When it was all said and done I had to cut all dairy soy wheat eggs fish and nuts to keep her symptom free.

@MamaMoose: Was your LO having a ton of symptoms before you cut dairy? We are not having any outside of weird poop...but this was a suggestion from the doctor and I'm willing to give it a shot. I had the same thoughts, though, as what you've said because if it doesn't work, I feel like I don't know for sure. I've been trying my best to avoid all dairy, but I'm not sure that I've identified everything that contains the protein.

@blackbird: yeah, I have coconut milk yogurt, which is okay, but I'm not crazy about it. And I'm finding it a lot less filling than the greek yogurt I used to eat.

Following! We are there, too...I was right, I think her symptoms are getting better since I've cut out dairy. Or rather, they got better and then I got a little foot loose and fancy free with the cheese and butter this weekend, and she started fussing and spitting again. So back to no dairy for me.

I'm eating a lot of avocado, but man do I miss mozzarella. :bummed:

Just wanted to chime in as someone who dealt with a LO with tonnns of food intolerance while nursing. I really suggest cutting out ALL dairy for at least three weeks. My doctor also said not to worry about trace amounts but it turned out for us LO was very sensitive. I feel like it can be a huge waste of time to not cut out all dairy because if your LO doesn't get better you don't know of that means that it's not a milk allergy, or that you need to cut out all milk, and you're back at square one. For me it was much easier to cut out EVERYTHING that made be a problem and get to a clean slate with a healthy baby, and then slowly add things back to see if she reacted. Just something to consider.

@gilmoregirl: There are TONS of dairy free snack choices but (sadly) I tend to eat a lot of junky ones. I also avoid all dairy and most soy (I now will eat things with soy/vegetable oil).

I like the coconut yogurt, if you miss yogurt. The almond yogurt has a too-sweet fake aftertaste to me. I also eat a lot of hummus, as PPs mentioned. Peanut butter on crackers is always good. Bare Naked granola is delicious. Honestly, I snack on cookies a lot (oops!), because I either make my own using almond milk and dairy free "butter", or I buy the Enjoy Life brand. I also eat a lot of savory "snacks", like curry puffs, samosas, fish balls (these are snacks from my husband's culture that we tend to have around).

Frozen blueberries, making a quick small sandwich, sweet potato fries, I make dairy free pizza (I just leave off the cheese and it's still super good)...I could go on for days.

I'm also dairy free so I understand your pain! I usually stick to hummus, fruits & veggies, coconut yogurt (has a different texture than regular yogurt but it's still really good).

I used to eat yogurt with fruit every day too, and I ended up just replacing it with oatmeal. Helps with milk production too!

In addition to the ideas above, I also like chips with guacamole (or even just slices of avocado with a little salt and lime) and green shakes (I use coconut milk or rice milk, but almond milk could work too).

Nuts are an easy option, so is beef jerky! You can also make some homemade granola/snack bars that are awesome :)

@looch: I definitely second hummus.

I also love natural peanut or almond butter on a banana or with apple slices. I also make homemade nut protein bars and oat granola bars to snack on. I'm dairy free so I know how hard it is to find snacks that aren't based around cheese or other dairy products!

I also like edamame and sushi/sashimi...sounds slightly weird to consider it a snack food, but it really hits the spot for me in terms of mouth feel (creamy, like dairy).

I'm five days into dairy-free at the suggestion of the pediatrician to see if we can clear up some symptoms my LO has been having.

I've been told I should only avoid obvious dairy, like milk, yogurt, cheese, etc and not to worry about dairy that's in something else (like a baked good made with milk).

My go-to snack has long been greek yogurt with fruit or a cheese stick, and I'm really struggling to replace them. Part of this is probably because I most want what I can't have ;)

Any snack suggestions ?
