@mamabolt: So sorry you're going through this. Wishing you all the best.

My doctor also told me to wait 2 cycles. I just had my first cycle start exactly 5 weeks after the procedure. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd be ready to TTC now anyway, so I don't mind waiting a little while longer.

@mamabolt: I'm so sorry for your loss. *hugs* My OB told me to wait for 2 AF cycles before TTC to build up my lining, but from other's on here, it seems after 1 cycle was sufficient timing.

Wanted to share my experience I had a D&E today at 11w. I had mine under general anesthesia and although I was very nervous about the surgery part it went smoothly. One part I was not prepared for was being asked by the nurses if we wanted the remains for burial or wanted the baby baptized. I am supposed to be on 4 weeks pelvic rest but no idea if I'll be allowed to ttc at that point.

@2PeasinaPod: The bleeding has stopped as of yesterday (11 days post D&C). I had to go to ER last week because I passed a golf ball size clot followed by quarter sized to half dollar sized clots for 10 minutes. It was crazy. The cramping was intense. There was no retained tissue so we have no idea what caused the clot passing marathon. They gave me the methergine shot and prescribed the pills afterwards. The shot was very effective, the pills not so much.

I have my 2 week follow up today.

@Alivoo01: I did. Many. And many of them were painful. I had clots that were up to 2" in length. I ended up going to the hospital and they had to give me IV pain medication. That being said, I ended up having retained tissue (that they didn't detect on the u/s at the hospital) and it was a long process until I passed it naturally a few weeks later. The doc did tell me that clots were normal to pass as long as they were quarter sized or smaller.

@My Only Sunshine: Definitely not TMI because I passed one that size last night and that's what got me freaking out. I passed a couple nickel sized this morning. Thanks for sharing, and I'm sorry we're in this as well *hugs*

@HappyBluebird: holy cow. a golf ball size?! I'd definitely be freaking out. I passed a quarter size one last night (that already made me panic) and was crampy all day prior to passing it. I'm still bleeding this morning so hopefully it'll ease up and go away soon.

@littleveesmommy: I called this morning and the doctor said it could be normal and to be concerned/call back if I pass a golf ball size or bigger clot, soak through a pad for an hour, or run a fever. Hoping I don't experience any of these!

@Alivoo01: I passed one rather large (slightly bigger than a golf ball) clot about 4-5 days after D&C. I had really bad cramps right before but after I passed it I had no more bleeding or cramping.

For my first AF, I had tiny clots but nothing that was alarming. I just had a yearly visit with my Dr and we talked about it. She said its normal for the lining to take a cycle or two to get back to normal

@Alivoo01: So sorry we're in the same stupid boat on this one.

I had mine on 3/6. It took about 2 weeks for the bleeding to completely stop. It was never extremely heavy but I did have some clots a couple times. (Like maybe up to the size of a quarter - is that way TMI??) My doctor said that was normal. She wanted me to call if I soaked a pad in an hour or if I felt woozy.

The bleeding definitely came and went. It started 2 days after the D & C and really didn't end for good until this past weekend (2 weeks post-op).

Hope you're doing OK! I've been thinking of you.

@Alivoo01: I don't remember clots except on the very first day, but the bleeding did tend to get heavier/lighter depending on activity etc. I just checked my fertility friend.. looks like it was Heavy, medium, spotting then went back to medium and back to spotting.

@Alivoo01: D&E (dilation & evacuation) or D&C (dilation & curettage, I believe the evac is a vaccuum, and the curettage is the scraping of the lining - I apologize for being so blunt.

As I said in the post, I didn't choose the method, I left it up to the doctor to do what he thought was best. I don't prefer either over the other.

@erwoo: I thought so too! And when I went to my RE, she said she thought it was really odd that my old OB didn't think it was odd that I had such prolonged bleeding after a D&E rather than a D&C. When she did my surgery to remove the scar tissue, she found remnants of fossilized placenta left behind which was enough to convince me not to go back to my old OB now that I'm pregnant again.

@Alivoo01: I'm so sorry to hear about this. I had two miscarriages just like that between my two kids. I had a D&C with my first b/c it just didn't want to come out with help with a pill to help dilate my cervix. With my second one we tried the same method and it came out naturally. All was fine both times and I was about 6-8 weeks with both. My D&C was quick... within 35 mins I was done and recovering and was home in a couple of hours resting. I bled less and not for a very long time afterwards. However, my periods started to be REALLY heavy from then on. I soaked through the thickest maxi pads within an hour with my first period after my miscarriage. With the second one, it wasn't painful with some Advil during the dilation (from cramps) but I knew when it came out. A few bigger blood clots and it was done. I bled normally afterwards; but my period became pretty heavy again afterwards. Not as heavy as after my first miscarriage but more than before I got pregnant the first time. I'd say it wasn't particularly painful physically as it was emotionally.

@Alivoo01: The way that it was explained to me was that a D&E was a dilation & evacuation by suction (a little bit less invasive because they're sucking everything out rather than cutting it out). The D&C is a dilation & cutterage where they actually cut everything out.

My doc went the D&E route because it's less likely that scarring in the uterus would happen. Apparently my body didn't like any of that and scarring ensued anyway which caused multiple future miscarriages. Like I said before, just be in tune with your body and raise the question if you have any prolonged bleeding.

As for progesterone, my RE let me know they were looking for anything over 10. Hoping that this process moves along quickly for you,

@Alivoo01: My OB said it was because you are still growing the sac, your body may not have fully realized there is no baby in there. Which is also why a natural m/c hasn't happened.
