I have thick, partly wavy, dark brown/black hair naturally and I'm OBSESSED with coloring/cutting, changing my hair every few months to year. :)

I think color makes a huge difference. In the last year I've had blond highlights, ombre, red, purplish red, natural, etc. :)

It's fun and I don't think maintenance is all that much. My hair grows too fast and I'm ready for a change every three months anyway!

@Mrs. High Heels: here's a simple explanation which I don't even know if it's right. Super subtle and a different technique of coloring your hair so that it looks more sun-kissed and grows out less noticeably

Both pics are so cute! I have fine/thin hair, so even perming my hair will never get it to look like the pics unless I sit there and curl them every day! I def think the 2nd pic is more realistic/feasible.

I follow this girl on IG - maybe this will help!

Her hair is so pretty!!!

No, I haven't gotten anything but a cut in over 10 years... I'm really itching for a change though, so I may want to do a digital perm and some sort of highlights/lowlights to bring out some dimension. I'm with you that the maintenance always seems like too much, and i'm not one of those people that enjoy sitting at a salon for 4 hours! It's not relaxing to me.

I don't get my hair lightened any more, the results are always too orange for my taste. My hair is warm toned and doesn't do the ash toned sandy highlights.

When I need to, I will use a semipermanent dye. I haven't decided if I will do it at the salon or at home yet.

@night cheese: do you take a photo of what you want your color to look like to the stylist or just say you want ombré/balayage? My friend said she got balayage and her hair just looks so pretty!

If you get ombré or balayage highlights, maintanance and upkeep isn't bad, because you don't get major roots. I have dark brown hair and I feel like highlights really brightened me up when my hair was shoulder-length.

I don't color my hair anymore because I got a pixie and get it cut every 4-5 weeks, so all the color would get cut off and I'd have to get it done all the time.

@sandy: I think I might have the same hair texture...dry, brittle? I had thyroid issues in the past.

I think a great cut ( with or without color) would be great!

My hair is pretty thin and flyaway. I used to have the typical thick Asian hair but I have about 1/4 of the hair I used to have and the texture completely changed when I started having thyroid issues. I'm afraid to go short bc I always regret it so I was thinking medium length. Maybe trying something like this. If you have better hair photos please post! I need help!

I saw my friend today and her hair looked sooo pretty! All my other friends were raving about her hair too. I can't tell if it's the cut that makes it look so good or if it's that she got it colored. It just looked so good so I made an appointment with her stylist for next week. My hair is so long and blah right now...I need a hair makeover. I've never had my hair professionally colored as an adult...I'm Asian and have dark brown/black hair and the thought of the maintenance just seems like too much. Do you think a great cut is good enough or does the color just put it over the top and make a haircut look amazing? What is the maintenance like? Photos of your hair or inspiration hair much appreciated!

My friend's hair is dark brown and this is kind of what her hair looks like now...the style. The color is darker/warmer and just so pretty.
