My in home daycare does something similar, but it's because she can't work 12 hours a day by state law. She goes to work out while the littles are watched by another staff member. Her staff members have a schedule where we usually see one person in the morning and a different one at night.

@corduroy Leaving is one thing, as long as the other 2 ladies are acceptable to you. I would not be comfortable with my child being taken in a vehicle without my knowledge.... I wonder if the parents of the toddlers are aware of this? What if she is terrible driver or has an unsafe vehicle for children? Seems like something I would want to know in advance.

My in home daycare does this as well, but she's the director so DS's actual teacher is there watching him. There's also been a time when I went to pick DS up early that the director wasn't there, but it was in the middle of the day and I know she wasn't doing pick up/drop off.

My in home does this, however she has a full time assistant who I met beforehand that I am okay with leaving DD with for a few minutes. This was not a deal breaker because I had met and trust everyone who is caring for my child.

I toured an in home daycare where this was an issue. She actually packed all the infants up and drove them to the bustop to get kids off the bus about .25 miles away. I asked how she got them all in the car and she said she has 8 car seats.

I looked in the van on my way out and she had 8 backless boosters in there. All the babies were 1 year-3 years old.....

Definitely a deal breaker for me!

@birdofafeather: DH didn't know. He was late dropping LO off and was surprised to only see the second-in-command and just a couple babies. Usually it's a room full of kids. I guess the woman must take a few of the toddlers with her for drop off and pick up. My LO HATES the car so I'm sure she isn't going out for a ride anywhere. Ugh - I guess I shouldn't assume that.

LO can only stay at this place until March so we're looking for a new place. I'll just have to add "do you leave during the day?" to my list of questions.

that's weird that she wouldn't tell you upfront. i mean, the kids are still being watched, but strange that she wouldn't say something. did your DH know all along or he just figured it out on his own?

Oh wow, she should at least have informed you about who she would be leaving your child with, even if it's just for a few hours each week.

DH asked me today if I knew that our day care woman leaves every day to drop kids off at school and pick them up. I feel like an idiot but I had no idea! I know her son is in school but I never thought about how he gets to/from school before.

My daughter stays at the home daycare with another woman during this. There's always another woman at pick up and drop off but I never paid much attention to them. Usually three woman that rotate. Only one speaks English.

I don't really have a problem with it. I'm just dumbfounded that the person I assumed was watching my baby all day isn't.
