Thank you so much to all you ladies, and to @Kemma: for asking this question as I've been wondering the same thing. DS1 was still taking 3 naps a day until 9-10 mos (1-2 hrs) and slept 13 hrs overnight.

DS2 is 8 mos and sleep has always been somewhat rough but recently has gotten worse. He sleeps 9-11 hours, wakes and nurses, then goes back down and plays for 30-45 minutes in bed before sleeping again for 2-3 hours. Daytime sleep totals about 2-3 hours but naps are variable. I felt like I was doing something wrong but he probably just needs less sleep than my older son! Maybe we'll try cutting back to one nap a day if he can handle being awake for long enough. Total sleep is around 14-15 hrs a day according to Baby Connect app.

@Kemma: I have heard that night sleep is most important for growth and development and daytime sleep is more for mood, but with my kids they won't go to sleep well if they're too exhausted so daytime sleep is important for nighttime sleep for us.

My son slept like crap, but I mean, it's because he needed less sleep. He's just programmed like that, so I don't stress about it any more. I used to, don't get me wrong!

Thanks for your responses ladies!

Miss A is almost ten months and we're trialling just one nap a day at the moment because her second one hour nap was resulting in a 10pm bedtime which meant she lost two hours of night sleep for the sake of her second nap.

We're on day two and yesterday A slept a total of 14.5 hours so hopefully this new schedule works out for us :-)

Since sleep training at 10 months, they typically sleep 11 hours overnight and 2-3 over 2 naps.

As long as LO is happy and healthy, and it works for your family, it doesn't matter if they don't follow the 'norm'. That's the biggest takeaway I've learned in my first year of life with twins :)

LO is 9.5 months and gets about 10-11 hours of sleep each night plus 2-3 hours of naps per day. so probably around 13 hours total, average.

I'm getting jealous of your awesome mappers reading this post!

C is almost 11 months, sleeps 10-11 hrs (usually right around 10.5) at night (has been waking but often sttn overall) and naps maybe 0:30 to 2:00... Every now and then (like i can count the instances on one hand) up to 3:00... Usually 1hr napping for the day. Two thirty minute naps or one 1 hr nap. She often refuses her second nap.

Edit.. So to answer your question I think as long as the schedule works for you and baby and they get the total # hrs its ok if night sleep is a little shorter.. I wouldn't say sleeping every other hour like a newborn is ok though. But as you can see my dd doesn't sleep enough period. :/

LO is 11 months and gets about 13 at night (occasionally 14) and then takes one 2-3 hour nap. So average of 15 hours, but I think she requires more sleep than the average baby her age. I need lots of sleep too so I'm sure she gets it from me.

Does it matter what kind of sleep baby is getting as long as she is having the total required amount?

And how much total sleep was your LO getting at 9-12 months?
