@Mrs squirreld: Brilliant! I'm glad you've seen some improvement. 12 settles?!! I punched the sofa cushion this morning after settle number 6!! I have been solo parenting all weekend, though!

@Mrs squirreld: so we are back to a day of needing to be settled! Several times for each nap so far. Our nights sound a bit similar- she used to go down at 730-8pm fine and recently it takes until 930-945pm to get her asleep! But yeah, like you said, she's down then until about 4am.

@illumina: yeah I almost wanted to cry on the floor after it but we got through. This afternoons nap went much better too. Only 4 settles compared to yesterday's 12! Will be interesting to see how tonight goes though.

@Mrs squirreld: yay!!!! fwiw it doesn't make a difference if we use white noise or not it seems! 12 settles though?! I get fed up after 3-4 and let her nap on me! Maybe I need to be more persistent!

@delight: @Cherrybee: @illumina:
Thanks for the advice ladies!!! Here's my update.
Yesterday I was like "right this napping business is getting sorted!!" I got a napping schedule and stuck to it... The morning nap I must gone in 6 times to settle him. :-/ the afternoon nap was worse... Probably about 12 times.. It sucked! But hey I'm stubborn. His night time routine suffered too. Usually he goes down at 7pm but he fought sleep until 9.30pm.... But he did then sleep til 5.30am which is his longest stretch ever... Although not surprised after all the energy it probably takes to fight the naps.... Anyways I fed him put him down again and then got up at his normal time of 7am... So here I was dreading the first morning nap struggle... Around came 8.30am time for nap.... So I put him down. And 2hours and 15minutes later he's STILL NAPPING!!!!! He hasn't cried once!!!!!! I even went to bed and curled up with my husband ( he's been on night shifts) and napped myself! I feel amazing!!! I'm going to get him in 15 minutes as that is when his nap should end..... So we'll see how he goes on the afternoon nap. Funny thing is I forgot to put the white noise on.... And now I don't know whether to put it on this afternoon or not... Hahaha.
I hope this isn't a fluke and he's settling in to this pattern. :-D go me!!!

@Mrs squirreld: I just wanted to update you in case you didn't see my other thread... since 5.5wks I've barely been able to put S down anywhere, as you know and she has been fighting naps like her life depended on it. Well today it's almost midday and she's taken 2 naps in her cot! It might be a fluke day, but if it's not, maybe what we just went through and what you're experiencing now is just a short phase and you don't need to do anything different, nor is there anything you can do to help until it passes?

Oh no!! Welcome to the world of the crap-nap - where my E is Queen!! I think our naps went to crap around 7 weeks, too!

E takes her naps in her cot. We have a black out blind and white noise blaring. I eeeek out each nap by reinserting her dummy over and over if she wakes up crying but I have to let her get up when she wakes up grinning and waving her arms and legs about!! I put her back down as soon as see tired cues - even if that's only half an hour after I got her up (if she has taken a predictable half hour nap, it is usually 45mins - 1 hr after)! If she is going to take crap-naps, I figure she needs to take loads of them!!!

It has worked for us. She's not as grumpy now she's taking *more* crap-naps and, since we put the black out blind up, her naps do seem to be getting longer. I'm not sure if that's anything I am doing or if she is just ready to, now she's almost 4 months old?

@Mrs squirreld: I know, I've read to keep it light for naps but that seems strange for me. I don't like napping when it's light in the room. It's naturally much darker at bedtime anyways, but I keep the shades closed during the day too.

We're in the same boat! And I'm so glad because it means I'm not doing something terribly wrong!! If I time it just right she will nap in her basket for 30 mins at a time! If I don't, she gets overtired so fast and fights it for ages. The last couple of days she napped on us- and will easily go 3-3.5hrs there!

@delight: I was a bit worried about making it "dark" but I guess it's still lighter than real night time.

I do a similar set up for my LO for bedtime and naps. It's dark in her room, white noise is on, I swaddle her and lay her in crib after nursing. She's 12w and I started putting her in her own room for naps around 4w.

So E is 7 weeks old. And in the last couple of weeks his day time napping has gone to pieces. Some days he fights the nap til 1pm and then crashes cause he's so exhausted. He yawns all day but only naps for 10-20 minutes at a time!!! Where have the 2 hour naps go?! He used to love napping in the swing now he seems to not like it.
So I'm trying to move him into his real bed for naps ( seems like a good time since he's not napping anywhere else!)
Should I Make it the same as night time? White noise, dark?? What do you do for naps?
