Have you talked to other parents in her day care? That would be a big factor for me. If lots of other kids from her class are doing it, I would probably want her to join in. I wouldn't want LO to be bored and lonely at day care all morning while her friends were at the pre K program. If no one else is doing it and all her day care friends will go to the same elementary school anyway then she's already bonding with them at daycare and doing the curriculum at day care so saving $280/month wouldn't be worth it to me to disrupt her days and deal with the stress of busing.

Gotya, The big concern for me would be the bussing back and forth. But it sounds like they have a good option, its a short drive, and if she did after school back at the daycare for K she would have to be bussed then too right?

Being at two locations would actually kinda be a plus for me. I like the thought that they would get a change in scenery through the day (not be in one classroom for so long).

@snowjewelz: from our house to daycare it's about 15 minutes with no traffic. The school is literally around the corner.

@regberadaisy: I would do UPK.

For the cost savings and nice way to ease her into the school classroom - 2.5 hrs this year and then FT in K

@T.H.O.U.: pro vs con is for sending her to UPK then Bus to her current daycare for after care. My daycare will pick her up from UPK.
She would just go to daycare full time in the summer until she starts K. She will very likely go to her dayacre for aftercare during elementary school as well. Or at least until DD2 starts elementary.

We are not considering using the district listed daycare for aftercare.

@Mamaof2: K is full day. 8:20 - 2:50

If its similar to our system, the elementary school offers a great PreK program and after school care for 4 year olds. My concern lies in the summer between PreK and K. That is when the PreK (state program) ends and the class just takes part in the larger elementary school summer camp program.

So the Pro/Con list is for what program?

The UPK program at the district with the district after school care? Where does bussing come into play then?

Ugh, that's tough! I know $280/ mo savings REALLY add up.

How far is the bus ride?

I totally would be nervous thinking about how she is on the bus daily, worry about stupid stuff like if they forgot her, etc.

Ok, parents. My head is spinning a little and I need some input.

My district has a 2.5 hour UPK program for all 4 yo residing in the district. The only aftercare option listed on their site is a different daycare than one my girls go to. I had known this for a while. Therefore, all along we were planning on staying at our daycare for PreK.

Well, today, in my daycares PreK enrollment information I find out that they do, in fact, provide after care for my districts UPK program.

I'm not sure what to do!

Pros:
Savings of ~$280/month. I don't know about you but this is not chump change for us.
She will be familiar with her elementary school. Know friends that she will enter kindergarten with.

Cons:
Busing; the thought of my 4 yo being bused daily to daycare makes me a little sad! My daycare will pick her up and bus her to daycare. I feel more comfortable with this option than if our school district bus her. My daycare buses have car seat install options
Being at two different schools, every day, 5 days a week. It seems like it might be a bit much?

Things to note: my daycare will follow the same "curriculum" as my district. I've know the teacher at daycare for 3 years plus and I feel very comfortable that DD will learn what she needs to from her.

WWYD?? I had already sent back her PreK/kinder registration form back to the school district, indicating she won't be attending UPK. So I'm assuming we have to make up our mind pretty soon.
We both work full time.

Would love input from teachers as well.
