Our daycare won't do Meds without a prescription but they will give teething tablets. As another commenter said, you can also have your dr give you a twice daily med instead of one that's 3x.

Interesting how things happen. Today, DS started teething really badly at daycare and wouldn't eat or sleep well. The owner texted me and I ok'd her to give him some ibuprofen. I just thought it was strange that this happened the day after I asked this question. Now I trust the owner of the daycare so I was ok with her giving the dosage that I told her.

Thanks for your thoughts. The daycare we use right now is pretty laid back and we haven't run into this issue before. I didn't know how much of an issue this would be going forward. I guess I agree that I would be more comfortable being the one who gives out the correct dosage but I suppose I just like knowing that we have the option should anything come up.

R is on medication for Reflux. Since it is an ongoing medicine, I had to get a letter from the doctor saying she is being treated for reflux. Then I had to fill out a form about the medicine and dosage. I also have to log on on a form every day what time they need to give her the medicine.

Ha, if my daycare could get the medicine into my son better than my husband and I, I'd send him there everyday for the course of the medication!

All kidding aside, though, it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me because I have good backup care and I can always keep LO out of day care and at home with my parents when he's sick.

My daycare will dispense meds, so it's not something I ever really had to think about. It would really suck if that's the one thing keeping you from choosing that daycare!

My daycare will dispense with a doctors note. I wouldn't want them to dispense without it. Like what if they gave my LO some tylonel for teething and then forgot to write it down and I ended up giving her another dose half an hour later when I picked her up? Just too risky for me.

My daycare will dispense meds with a doctor's note. However, there are ways around this. Your doc can change the dosage so you only need to give it at home. Regardless I'm not too comfortable with them dispensing meds and prefer to do it myself and rarely give meds. And she has been sick plenty.

We just bought a house in the suburbs so we are needing to find a new daycare. We looked at 2 yesterday that both have their pros and cons but I think we would be happy with either of them. However, there is one con for one of them that I'm not sure yet if it's a deal breaker.

One of the daycares will only dispense medication if it's related to an allergy. Otherwise, they will not give any other medication. Therefore, if DS is on antibiotics (but isn't contagious so he is cleared to be back at school) and needs a mid-day dose or if he needs some tylenol because he's teething, they can't help him. The other daycare will dispense medication as long as I sign some paperwork and they have a doctor's note.

Would this be a deal breaker for you? If your daycare is like this, how do you handle this? I currently work in the city so I would be a train ride away. I hope to get a new job that would be closer to home so that maybe I could run over during my lunch hour but I can't count on that right now.

I appreciate your thoughts on this. Other than this issue, I think this would be the daycare that we would choose.
