I love how my daycare does it. They have a board with hooks labeled with each kid's name. The pacifier goes on the hook when not in use. We keep an extra one in her cubby just in case, though, but they haven't misplaced it in the three months she has been there.

We put one in her bag each day which they would send home. I also used the wubbanubs because they are huge and hard to lose (Both for us and daycare).

Our old daycare always lost things because the teachers were careless and put them in the wrong cubbies. I would tell them to search each cubby before telling me it was lost.

We have 2 pacifiers that are left at daycare. They clean them. They've never lost them. I would not leave work for that, even if he did miss a nap...they can find another way to soothe LO!

Our daycare had us bring in a couple paci's in a container (small ziplock brand box). The paci's are labeled and the container is labeled too. They are washed and returned to the box each day and if for some reason, one is lost, there is a backup.b

I'm also in the camp of buying a bunch and putting them in his cubby. We have like 10 pacifiers at my house and I can only ever find 1 or two. Then they reappear!

We keep one there. It is on a tether, so maybe it's easier to find? It's only for naps, so I think it's a simple matter of grabbing out of her cubby & putting it back in. I'd be frustrated in your situation, too.

Our LO has a cubby next to his crib where his extra stuff is kept. He has extra clothes, paci, sleep sack in there. The paci always goes in there when he is done with it. He has been there over 3 months and it has not been lost. My older DD was in the baby room 7 months and never lost her paci!

So I agree with buying a few to keep there as backup but I would also want the daycare staff to come up with a new plan for storing it and not losing it!!

We usually left 1 in the cubby and then DD would come with one in the morning - so in theory there were two there. The one she would come in with was on a clip and therefore a little harder to lose.

Now that I see it mentioned - its a great idea to keep an extra in the car to avoid having to go home. I'd like to say "I'd make them deal with it" but since DD getting no sleep would have directly negatively benefitted me I probably would not be that hardcore. But I would 100% be fine with them giving DD a sanitized loaner!

our daycare had a supply of extra pacifiers that they use for the los that use pacis, so we brought some but inevitably they'd use one of the "class" pacis for her. she's actually weaned off the pacifier there, though she still uses it at home!

I would definitely not leave work to go get another pacifier!

And while they clearly need to develop a better way to keep track of the pacifier so it's not getting lost all the time, I would probably also get a couple to leave at day care so that if they lose one there is still a back up available.

That is insane!! The only reason I expect a call from daycare is if she's puking or has fever. Can't they clean one of their own pacifiers to give her?

We keep a few back up packs of pacifiers in LO's drawer at daycare.

How do they lose it so often and never find them again? It's one room, there are only so many places a pacifier can go. I think it's ridiculous you have to replace them so often, they need a better procedure.

When DD was younger we had one at daycare that stayed there all the time, plus one that was attached to her car seat. The car seat stayed there all day until pick up so she essentially had two.

There is no way I would lose 1.5 hours of work for that. I would have told them that it was there the day before, so I would bring a replacement tomorrow but I cannot leave work today.

Granted this never happened to us because DS only took a pacifier when truly hysterical so his didn't get used much. There was one we kept at daycare and a spare in his diaper bag

@MamaG: Yep, he's 5 months. He has a little bin where we put extra clothes, bibs, etc. where I think they're supposed to keep it, but there've been a few times when it's been sitting on a ledge above the crib he uses.

@T.H.O.U.: Ugh, it's not on a clip since he only uses it for nap, but maybe that's a good solution. I should probably just keep an extra in my purse too, so if they happen to lose it, I wouldn't have to go alllll the way home.

I'm guessing this is an infant child? In our infant room they had dressers. Each child had two drawers for their things. The pacifier was labelled with their name and put in the drawer when not in use (or on top of the dresser). We never had one get "lost".

In our toddler room it's still labelled and kept in the cubby on the wall with all of the other things (diapers, wipes, spare clothing, etc).

I would request on a going forward basis they have a designated spot to keep your child's pacifier when not in use. And if for some reason it's "easier" to keep track of, take it home every evening and return it in the morning.

Maybe I'm a mean mom but I wouldn't be bringing a pacifier. They can hold him and deal with it for the day or the director can go buy one. I just sent a pacifier with her everyday and usually had a spare in her bag and it was never a problem. We had wubbanubs which are harder to lose though.

I keep two at daycare for T and it's on them to deal with it if they lose it. I would not leave work; they'd just have to find a way, IMO (which they have once or twice). When E was older, i'd bring her wubbanub every day or clip it to her shirt when I got her dressed.

If it were another mom, I'd say stick one of T's in boiling water and clean it, then give it to him! Kids are all sharing germs anyways ;)
