Our daycare is closed for holidays, a total of 10 days this year, throughout the year. We also get a "Vacation" week, where when we go on vacation, we don't have to pay for that week.

I would not be ok with closing for 2 weeks at a time and still having to pay.

Our center lets us take two weeks vacation per year where we don't have to pay if our boys are not there for the entire week. I really appreciate their policy, I think it's pretty generous.

For any recognized holidays, public holidays, we do pay even when the center is closed, unless that's a week we take our vacation.

My sister's in-home gets two weeks of paid vacation twice per year. She always takes her vacation (one week at a time) at roughly the same times of year. The daycare provider also has someone that comes in and watches the kids when she is sick and (I think) helps her on field trips so it is a person the kids know.

We go to a center and pay for 52 weeks.

They are closed on a few holidays and for a week at Christmas - I still have to pay. I also pay when we go on vacation.

seems the norm to me

We are the minority- but we only pay for the days LO is actually at daycare. (We have an in home) so if we go on vacation, or she goes on vacation we don't pay. If Lo is sick or she is sick- we don't pay.

Sounds like a very normal set up. We pay year round but daycare is closed for stats and for the DCP's own two weeks of holidays.

Totally normal. We pay 52 weeks unless our provider (which is in home) uses all her vacation and sick days and takes unpaid. But she has built in vacations and sick days so unpaid is unlikely.

When we were looking I thought it was crazy to pay even if we took a vacation, a week summer vacation or what not, but then when I thought about it, it's her income, her livelihood and I couldn't deal if my employer didn't pay me for a week...

We have a nanny but we have been looking to possibility switch to an in home daycare in the fall. So far, they have all taken two weeks paid vacation, holidays, and we still pay if we don't send our children for any reason.

It's normal to pay for the time when the center is open and you don't use it, like if your child is sick, or you go on vacation.

When we were using a center, they had time off on the week between Christmas and New Years and that was a week that we still had to pay for, as it was a paid time off period for the staff.

I know for ME it was difficult to come around to the idea that you pay for time even if you don't use it, becuase I am not a salaried worker (if i don't book hours I don't get paid), but once i recalled the paid time off I had as a salaried worker, it all kind of made sense.

Yes, totally normal. Here, normal is actually 4-5 weeks of vacation. Our daycare closes for 2 weeks during the holidays and one week in July. Then the staff rotates vacations for another week each (last week one of the teachers was out all week for her vacation). They also get sick days that aren't included in that. We still pay the usual monthly tuition no matter when daycare is closed.

Our daycare closes between Christmas and New Years and we still pay for the full December tuition. If we take a vacation, they discount our tuition by 50% for those weeks. However, it has to be a full M-F week which is annoying because we don't always take off exactly between Monday to Friday.

We pay her 2 weeks vacation and we still have to pay if our LO is sick. Most holidays are paid but we only go part time so that usually doesn't affect us. There are also times during the year that she will take off unpaid. We also get a week of vacation to take each year.

We go to a Center and I think there are a total of about 2 weeks that they are closed... probably 10-12 weekdays. We have to pay regardless. I looked at a few in-home daycares and they all had at least 1 week of paid vacation + 2 or more personal/sick days.

Ours is a little different but they close for a week for fall break, two weeks for Christmas/New Years, and a week at spring break. They also close for pretty much every federal holiday. We still pay the same those months. But our daycare is more of a preschool. They are also a little more affordable than daycare centers.

@littlejoy: un paid? Right. Any time T takes off for herself-including the week of christmas, any sick or random days (she's randomly taking Monday off), plus her yearly personal vacation in July, we don't pay for. So we pay for 50 weeks a year. (Although that week in July, we send E to the backup sitter so we pay her). Once a year, we can take a week of vacation, too, and not pay. So we pay 49 weeks a year if WE take a vacation. But if E is sick or we take a random vacation day, we still pay.

Is it normal for a daycare provider to have 2 paid weeks off per year? We are reviewing a potential place, and saw it in her policy guide.

I assume the best use of that time would be to plan our own vacation, so we aren't paying for two separate weeks away from daycare?

My husband is really hung up on paying for care when DD is not there (if DD is sick, or daycare is closed for holiday), but I THINK this is normal??
