I'm a SAHM and my LO has stranger anxiety. But I was always very shy so I feel like it's just in her personality. My niece has my mom as a nanny and she doesn't have stranger anxiety. If her mom's around she wants nobody else.... but if she's out of sight she's out of mind.

Lo doesn't go to daycare and had/has stranger anxiety. I don't think that's the cause though. It's a normal part of infant development. It was worst probably around seven months if I remember right and now it's not a huge deal. Separation anxiety is a much bigger issue for us. (Also normal.)

Working with preschoolers in sports, kids in daycare and preschool tend to be more able to deal with the sports teaching. For example a child in daycare is ready for an independent 3 year old class before they are three. BUT if you met my son you would never know he has been in daycare since he was ten weeks old. He is so clingy to me. We started a new preschool and he was crying.

My Lo does not go to daycare and did go through a stage of stranger anxiety around 7 months...he's still somewhat cautious around new ppl at almost 10 months. However, his personality in general is somewhat reserved about new things, so I think that might be part of it too!

My LO goes to daycare and I'd say he has mild stranger anxiety. He doesn't freak out if a stranger looks at him but he is really apprehensive and will stare quietly and observingly if he's not comfortable. He will totally flash a smile and flirt with people if he wants to though!

I don't think stranger anxiety is a bad thing. I'd much rather my LO be aware that he is around someone new and unknown and take the time to warm up than run into anyone and everyone's arms. Just my opinion  .

My LO is 9.5 months old and goes to daycare full time, she can be shy around strangers but has never cried or gotten clingy. She usually just watches the person and won't smile at them when she first meets them.

I worked in an infant room for 6 years and we still had kids with stranger anxiety. They bonded and had great relationships with us and the regular daily teachers and were even good with other parents that came in and out daily, but when a preschool teacher or someone they didn't see everyday came in, they still reacted with that strangers anxiety. I think it just depends on the child.

I said other because he went to daycare full time until 7 months and then only 2x a week until now. He's 10.5 months and is back full time next week. He had no stranger anxiety in the beginning but around 6 months he started to be shy. It's gotten more prevalent since going part time. I'll have to wait and see what happens with going full time again.

i've been wondering about whether sending LO to daycare will have any effect on whether he develops stranger anxiety at some point.

what's been your experience? if you send LO to daycare, has s/he had stranger anxiety? or if you have a SAHP or nanny-type situation, has your LO had stranger anxiety?
