I use the cheap elastics too, but put a barrette in as well because her hair is all over the place. They've only lost one actually! She goes all day 2x a week.

I think it's totally normal! I use the little elastics, but unless she is with me all day, my daughter NEVER keeps them in.

I think if it's impt to you, you should talk to the teacher. Our teachers are good about making sure accessories like that go home with the right kid. Though, this sometimes means if it falls off once, they just stick it in the kid's cubby. They have the tiny elastics at school and will tie up bangs/hair if it seems bothersome for the kids. My DD has fine hair too and I usually just use the elastics. She pulls the cute pins out on the drive to school so it's pointless, lol.

I always sent my LO in bows or headbands and I know she pulled them out or messed with them but I can only think of maybe a couple times that they got lost. Any time I picked her up early they always would fuss with her hair before handing her back to me :)

We do the cheap rubber elastics. I think they were $5 for 500 of them at Target. She can't pull them out.

I will say that she got better with keeping bows/clips in her hair around 23 months, so now we can send them and they stay in.

We also just do cheap little elastics. I also keep a bunch of extra ones there in a plastic bag. We went through the same thing at first with our cute barrettes and bows. Like, she would have someone else's bow on at the end of the day and I'd try to give it back to the teacher and they would tell me that I was wrong and it actually did belong to my LO (as if I wouldn't know?). Even now, sometimes she comes home with hair elastics I've never seen before.

@teawithpaloma: we cut bangs just before age 2 because of the hair problem. Hair ties and clippies wouldn't stay in her hair. When my husband picks her up, I make sure he knows what clip she had in her hair so he can make sure we go home with it. We just ask the teachers for it.

I just use little elastics and cheap clips to keep the front hairs out of her face. I don't ever send her in bows, since I know they will likely be lost.

@teawithpaloma: normal to me! Sometimes her hair clips would be in her lunch bag and other times they were gone - I started buying cheapie clips so if they got lost I didn't care.

@teawithpaloma: You're not alone. We end up with different barrettes & ties all the time and ours go missing. I just put the random ones back in LOs backpack and don't send the nice ones.

Little elastics. She would rip them out so we sent a bag with her and her teacher could fix it after nap. We also started giving her a treat when she leaves her ponys in all day. After a couple weeks she left them in and wouldn't ask for the treat.

@teawithpaloma: nope. She's 3 now and still doesn't have bangs! We still tie up her hair in a side pony or do a small braid. It gets a little messy by the end of the day, but it doesn't bother me.

I think it'll be next to impossible for them to keep track of pretty hair bows. When I have the time and she lets me I just use tiny elastics. Half the time she pulls them out anyway. Especially at the younger toddler age she never let me put her hair up. She always looks a mess! LOL

My daughter has super fine thin hair and when it was finally long enough I cut bangs and it helps tremendously. Now it looks kinda cute even when her hair is down.

I don't have experience with daycare, but I'd probably just use the little elastic hair ties and not send her with pretty bows. I'd just hate to lose them and the elastic ties hold little, fine hair pretty well. We did a side-partial pony and/or braid for a long time.

My 18 month old daughter had thin hair and we haven't cut bangs yet so she needs it tied up (HairTidy) or a barrette holding it back. She started going to a new center based daycare last month and they have been routinely losing all of her barrettes or hair tidies by the end of the day. Today I send her with one big poofy pink barrette and I picked her up with a purple hair tie in the front that isn't ours!

Is this normal? Any suggestions on something I can send her with that she can't pull out? Should I talk to the teacher? I don't have overly particular standards of grooming but I don't think she should be disheveled at the end of the day.
