I work in a day care and per our regulations there are lots of steps. You need to wipe the baby's hands and your hands with a wipe after cleaning them and then after you are done getting a fresh diaper on them and redressed you need to ALSO wash their hands and your own. So, in total, we wipe and wash. Maybe the director just forgot to add that they also wash because the hand washing doesn't effect how many supplies of yours are being used? (Oh, we also have to wear gloves while wiping and disposing of the dirty diaper, but after the diaper is thrown out the gloves come off and that's when the hand wiping happens.)

that seems odd, i don't think wiping with a baby wipe counts as 'hand washing'. i worked in a center and we wore gloves for diaper changes and washed our hands with soap and water.

I would clarify. DD was at a major chain daycare and for diaper changes and bottles they wore gloves but also washed their hands and DD's hands after each diaper change, before/after meals and whenever they came in from going outside. However, we still went through a lot of wipes because they would use them for wiping off a sweaty face or sticky fingers in a pinch.

I went to pick up the paperwork from our daycare center the other day and was chatting with the director about the things I'd need to bring. When she got to wipes, she mentioned that they use three for each diaper change - one for baby's tush, one for baby's hands, and one for their hands - so I shouldn't be surprised if we are going through them faster than we might at home.

Stupid me...It didn't really dawn on me until later that maybe I should have clarified their diapering & handwashing procedures. Could this mean that they aren't washing after each change? (It's a widely known chain daycare, so I think they'd have some rigid corporate policies as well in addition to health code requirements.) A friend goes to a different location and has said that they use rubber gloves there and were not told anything about 3 wipes per diaper change.

Should I be concerned, or am I over-thinking this?
