Date night sitters in my area are $15-$20 an hour, but I found a HS girl that charges only $11.

@lawbee11: What she said!

We have paid "date night" sitters $9-12 per hour. When we have had a daytime babysitter, it has been in the same range because it is one-on-one care. One week we hosted three other kids at our home with a babysitter because our daycare was on spring break. We paid the babysitter $20 per hour to watch the four kids, or $5 per child.

Our daycare comes out to $5 per hour but again it is different because it is group care. We have a sitter lined up for this summer when our daycare closes (it operates on a preschool schedule) and she is going to charge $5 per hour which is incredible. She will be watching LO in her home along with her own child - she is a SAHM so this is just a little extra income for her family.

We pay daycare $50/day and she's there about 9 hours. When we hire an hourly sitter, we pay $12/hour. Also in the midwest

@SweetiePie: He's hilarious! Our other neighbor told me that when they call and ask him to sit and he's busy, instead of saying no, he'll suggest other days that would work better for him. "Oh, I can't on Saturday night, I have a sleepover. Could you go out on Friday instead? Friday would be a much better day for me."

@BadgerMom: haha, comment about the boy across the street made me laugh out loud.

We pay our daytime sitter $15/hour and she's with us 2 days a week.
We have a night time sitter who we pay $20/hr and guarantee a min number of hours to keep her happy. I live in a city where rates are generally higher and findin someone who lives in the city is hard, so when you find someone you have to keep them wanting to come back!

Her preschool worlds out to $4.50/hr so I would definitely pay way more hourly for a babysitter for the reasons @lawbee11: mentioned.

@LindsayInNY: Unfortunately I don't really have any friends with little kids in the area. Right now we've used a close family friend (16 yo) for a couple hours here and there. There is a boy across the street that I'm going to use as a backup though and he's a little businessman so I think he'll give me the straight dope when it comes to rates :silly: .

Definitely more. In a daycare setting there are other families paying in addition to yours so the hourly rate is actually much higher than you alone are paying. I would pay a date night babysitter at least $10/hour for one LO.

@Mamaof2: @Adira: Good to know! After I really thought about it, I figured my logic was no good. :happy:

As a teen babysitter back in the early 2000's, I happily made $3/hr for one and $6/hr for two. So I have no idea what to pay anymore!

@rachiecakes: $17 an hour? So $2720 for 1 month? :shocked:

Right now I pay $975 a month for my Pre-K DD )(4 yrs old) which is $6/hr

I don't know any babysitter that would do it for $6 an hour.

When J was at a home daycare the rate was the same ($17/hour), now that he's in preschool, school is way more affordable than a babysitter.

This is a spin off of the Babysitter Pay thread. How does your occasional "date night" babysitter hourly rate compare to your daycare hourly rate? Do you think you should pay an occasional babysitter more or less than you pay for daycare?

We live in the Midwest. LO goes to a small in home daycare for $5/hr. (I provide all formula, diapers, food, etc.) I don't really know what to pay an occasional teenage babysitter. My first thought was to pay the same as we pay daycare, but that seems like too little.
