It definitely does get better! My LO started in mid-January at age 3 months, so the first year for us wasn't as bad since she missed most of cold/flu season, but the second was awful and this year has been really good.

First year - She had a cold pretty much constantly and several major stomach bugs.

Second year - Sick constantly from Thanksgiving until literally July. On top of normal colds, she got hand foot mouth, roseola, norovirus, flu, an ear infection, and at least a couple other stomach bugs.

Third year - She's had a few colds and one 24 hr stomach bug. That is IT.

DS started daycare at 3 months last March and only made it 3 days before he had a fever and had to go to the dr! We had 5 ear infections in the first 5 months, non-stop colds, but by 9 months he'd pretty much gotten it all and this winter we've only had 1 cold (and no ear infections). The first few months are rough but it does get better. Hang in there!

We've had a terrible year for illness this winter for all of us, and it's our third daycare year so I think maybe there is just something about this year? The first year in daycare was rough though, definitely hasn't been like that since.

I'm so sorry  DD is older, but we're def had back to back to back illnesses too. Her cousin doesn't even go out and she was the one that went to the ER w/ RSV & bronchitis! I was told that once they get over this they will have a great immune system.

Same here! LO1's first winter was SO BAD at daycare, I told my husband I couldn't do it again. So after LO 2, we hired a nanny---buuuuutttt, since LO 1 is still going to school and getting everything awful, she's still bringing it home to the baby. At least with the nanny, I am missing less work.

The last month, my girls have had bronchiolitis, croup, thrush (unrelated to daycare but still, doctor's visits), and pink eye TWICE. The week before last I literally went to the doctor 6 times in a span of 10 days because more things kept coming up-- one girl got pink eye, we went to the doctor. The next day, the other got pink eye, we went back to the doctor. Then the first got croup...back to the doctor. Then the baby got bronchiolitis...back to the doctor. Then I got pink eye. Then my husband got the flu. Then the older one got the stomach bug.

I haven't slept in a month. I'm just counting down until spring.

Our son started daycare at 4.5 months in January. He only got a few colds that winter. The following winter, when he was @18 months was much worse. Two stomach flus, pink eye, 2 ear infections, bad coughs requiring nebulizer treatments. Terrible. Funny thing is this year/winter,at 2.5, has been (knock on wood) pretty good!!

Hang in there!!!

The first year is really rough. I'm sorry, it just comes with the territory. But it's absolutely horrible seeing them so sick and worse when you & SO get it as well.

The thing I make sure to do is wipe the baby's hands and mouth the second we get home. Might not hurt to do that with your LO even before you get in the car?

The first winter was brutal. My LO1 (now nearly 3) was sick ALL THE TIME. We were regulars at our dr's and were greeted by name :silly: The second winter was a lot better, there were some runny noses and 1 or 2 stomach bugs but that was it. Now in his third winter he hasn't been home due to sickness from daycare at all *knock on wood*. My LO2 (13m) caught her first cold from her big brother at 5 days old. She has basically had a cold all her life. BUT even now in daycare while she has a cold she is never really sick. So all these colds they have now really do build up their immune system. Hugs  , spring is near and it'll hopefully get better then!

It is rough but hopefully they will not be as sick when they start school. In his first year, LO got RSV within a few weeks of starting daycare and we were constantly sick that winter. This winter has also been rough unfortunately - we've had 2 ear infections and a stomach bug in the past 2 months plus lots of cold symptoms.

Wow I'm sorry that sounds awful! I don't really understand how a tiny baby who isn't crawling around and touching other kids gets so sick though. Maybe we lucked out but DD started around 6 months in winter and the worst she ever got was a cold. It was constant colds but nothing crazy and she was crawling at the time! I will say DD NEVER gets sick now. Her sitters kid has had stomach bugs at least 4 times and the other kid she watches always gets it, too but DD hasnt gotten a single illness!

The first year was brutal for us but it did get better. She still picks up a bug every few weeks - and we all get it - but its a far cry from that first winter *shudder*

We have our 3 year old in preschool for the first time and also have a 4 month old, and it's been rough. A host of colds, a hospitalization for ds at 5 weeks, an almost hospitalization for dd because she wasn't getting better, fevers lasting almost 2 weeks each, pneumonia, pink eye. 2 ER, 1 urgent care, and a couple of pediatrician visits for dd this year so far. I am so over it but am resigned to letting the 4 month old (who wakes a minimum of 1-2 times when not sick, usually a lot more) just get everything now instead of later, unless she has a stomach bug, then I'll try to prevent it. I have no advice, I am just trying to get through it. I'm about to start job hunting and am in school and home with the kids the rest of the time. While I'm lucky to not have to take time off it sucks not even leaving the house except for the dr for weeks on end because I am the one who has to be with the sick and fussy kids. I'm hoping ds won't be this bad since I'm exposing him to a lot more.

The first year of daycare is rough. It's so hard ... It's hard to balance time off & a sick kid & paying for days your LO isn't at school, because they are sick.

My LO was sick every month for the first 6 months, but by her 9th month it was better. She was about a year older than your LO when she started, but I think they all just have to get those little bugs through their symptoms. It will get better!!!

Yes, DS started daycare just before 1 and the first year was rough. Sick so much, colds, flu, pink eye, ear infections etc.

After close to a year it got better. The last few months he's had a runny nose or cough a couple times but that is it, knock on wood.

This has been a ROUGH winter in terms of illness in general in our area, and having a baby new to daycare has been ridiculous. This week alone our house has been plagued with ear infections (DH x2), sinus infections (DH and me), pink eye (everyone), stomach flu (DH and LO and I assume I'll fall victim tomorrow or Saturday), and a cold (LO). This SUCKS. We can't finish a round of antibiotics for one thing before the next thing hits.

Aw, so sorry! The first year was really rough for us....pneumonia, colds, viruses, bronchilitis, ear infections. LO 1 didn't get as sick after the first year. LO 2 didn't have the same experience and she was only sick 1-2 times.

DS started daycare on 2/1/16 at 12 weeks old. Since he started he has been diagnosed with RSV, bronchiolitis and now PINK EYE! He's been to the ER and the dr twice in the past 2 weeks alone. DH and I have also had a nasty stomach bug but I can't be sure if that was from daycare or not. Oh and I also have pink eye and a ridiculous head cold that I can't even take anything for bc I'm nursing. He was STTN before daycare and since he's been sick he's up at least 3-4 times a night. This mama is tired!! I also feel so horrible because we have to suction and saline his nose, give an inhaler every 4 hours and now do eye drops. Ugh he's going to hate us. Please please tell me it gets better!!
