@Dahlia: I know! Those articles really freak/stress me out too! We try to compensate with a very early bedtime and good naps when he's not at daycare. There's only so much we can do though. Gotta shake off my wohm guilt

@peaches1038: Sounds like the right attitude. I wish I had just relaxed about it earlier. Her sleep schedule was a little screwy but she was happy; it was just articles like the one you linked that had me freaked out.

You all are giving me hope that it will get better! I'm glad we aren't alone  he won't be moved up to the next room until he is at least 15 months old and walking well. I will try to let it go because I know they are trying really hard to get him down.

Same as others, my LO did MUCH better once he moved over the toddler room. I have no idea how they get him to nap for an 1.5-2 hours on a cot but they do. When he was an infant, even a really young one, he would only nap for 30-45 minutes at daycare. I was always really worried about it too!

We're in the same boat with DD who is almost one. Some days she takes one 30 minute nap, other days she takes one 2 hour naps, and some days she takes 2 very short naps. We just roll with it. Not much you can do when they are at daycare and refusing to nap, it's not for lack of trying on the daycare workers part.

My LO who is 19 months never did great naps in the infant room. When she was very wee, she would have maybe 2 45 naps during the day and that was a good day. As she got older, it got a bit worse, and we were lucky if she got a single 45-60 minute nap. However, it got so much better when she moved to the toddler room at 1 year of age! They all sleep on mats at the same time and so there were much less distractions. She is still on the low end for naps, usually 1 nap for 1-1.5 hours. But her nighttime sleep has always been good, currently 11-12 hours.

Will your LO move to a room where they are on a one nap schedule soon? My guess is over time he'll sleep better or at least will adjust his overnight sleep. I would try to let it go since he sounds happy. My LO - a terrible daycare napper- has been healthy and thriving despite it.

Going through this exact same situation right now. DS is almost 10 month and usually takes 2 crappy 45 minutes naps a day at daycare. His naps on the weekends are much longer, usually 90 minutes to 2 hours. He's still sleeping fine over night around 11-12 hrs but the short naps do frustrate me. It's also loud in his daycare room but he is allowed a lovey which does help. You're not alone! GRRRRRRR

We had the exact same issue around the same time. When she was still in the baby room (open classroom, in cribs), she started only taking one 40 minute nap or sometimes no nap at all (she goes 9-3)! Nothing they did timing wise helped, and she would still take two naps at home on weekends. We had two months of that nonsense until they moved her up to the toddler room at 14 months. In the toddler room they all nap once a day at noon, and from the first day she was there she would lay down on her mat at nap time and sleep for two hours!

We were so worried about the transition from a nap perspective (and so were her teachers, apparently) but it was the best thing ever!

@2PeasinaPod: i guess I am protective of his sleep because I see more and more articles like this one from the link roundup today on HB. It's looking like sleep deficits can cause behavior issues like ADHD, which is prevalent in my family.

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/10/17/well/family/which-came-first-the-behavior-problems-or-the-poor-sleep.html?emc=edit_tnt_20161018&nlid=60021244&tntemail0=y&_r=1&referer=http://www.hellobee.com/2016/10/21/weekly-link-roundup-3/

Both of my LOs gave up their second nap before they turned 1. Unfortunately, there's so much going on at day care that they don't want to miss out on the action. LO2 will always take a 2-3 hour nap on the weekend to make up for his 1-1.5 hour nap at school during the week. He's 13 months today.

My vote is to just let it go. I don't know that there's much you can do.

DS is almost one and is in daycare 4 days per week from 7am - 4pm. And he only takes an hour long nap all day. He started daycare at the end of August and his naps have progressively worsened while there. At home, we follow the 2-3-4 schedule and he takes two 1-1.5 hour naps. He sleeps 11-12 hours overnight. I really don't think he is ready to go down to one nap but the daycare teachers say they try to put him down in the morning and he won't sleep. There is no separate space for the cribs, they are in the open classroom. They aren't allowed to have any loveys or white noise in their crib. He is so so tired and cranky when he gets home and everything I read says he should be getting 14 hours total. They say he is always very happy and hardly cries at daycare. He obviously would rather play and watch the other kids than nap. Has anyone else dealt with this? Did it get better? Do I just let it go?
