Want to report back, but scared I might jinx myself... Naps have gotten a little better. Maybe it just took my guy a little longer to adjust.

My son started daycare at 16 months, so he went straight into the toddler room. His naps were hit and miss but usually about an hour. They are 45 min-1 hour in the 2 year old room now that he's moved up, although we still often get "was not tired" written on his daily take home sheet (which is crazy, b/c he naps 2 hours when he's at home).Or a 30 min catnap.

All I can say is hugs and solidarity. Every night is basically a huge meltdown with an overtired toddler and we rush to get him to bed at 6:30-7 (when he was younger, even earlier - like 6pm!) because he was just falling apart. I hate that (1) my time with him at night is so limited, and (2) the time that I do have, he is a wreck and usually crying or throwing tantrums b/c he's so tired.

I dunno what to do about it, though. :bummed:

@JLC53 I am sorry, it is one of the worst feeling when you just know the wheels are coming off no matter what you do and you have been working. What does daycare say? 4 weeks seems like enough time to be in the routine. Have they tried moving his cot or mat around?

I know our son had to be in a less stimulating section of the room when he first started to encourage nap time. I hope that it starts to improve!

@MACSUNSHINE: I thought it would get better too once we moved to the toddler room. He has been in the toddler room since the first week in September. 4 weeks. Naps have gone from 1hr 15min (obviously not ideal - but not horrible) in the infant room to 30-45 minutes now in the toddler room. I am pulling my hair out at night...

Arggg that is the worst I am so sorry. My son is 20 months old and similar to yours struggled with napping at daycare. I literally use to cry driving home when he was in the infant room, he was so tired and so hungry it was miserable for everyone.

We were lucky in that the toddler room he actually has adjusted and naps better, how many weeks has it been since your son move up? I guess I am just wondering if you should give it more time.

Does he nap well at home? Is there a comfort object he can start associating with naps that may help? Our son is still hit or miss with napping but it has improved with each toddler room he has been in, mainly because everyone naps.

I am going through this right now with my 7 (almost 8) mos old. He naps pretty well in the morning when we are home and I admit he makes me work for his afternoon nap BUT he def gets tired and does need it. I have to rock him or bounce him.

At daycare he'll take a "cat nap" in the morning when he will take a fairly long one at home and in the afternoon at daycare I'm lucky if he gets a nap at all!! He's been anointed the "cat napper" by our daycare.

I pick him up at about 430 and he has to got to bed by 6, sometimes even earlier. It makes my evenings very hard/rushed/stressful. Especially bc if he's tired he whines and I can't put him down....

One night he was happy and in good spirits so I asked about his afternoon nap and they said, yes, he napped longer than ever that day.

I honestly dont' know what to do other than to just get through it. Let me know if you find a cure!!

My 20 month old has been going to daycare full time since 12 weeks old. His naps were always shorter in the infant room then at home which is to be expected. In September he moved from the infant room to the toddler room. I thought naps would have gotten better because the entire classroom naps at the same time. Naps have actually gotten worse. Most days he naps for 30-45 minutes all day. I have given it a good month to see if it would get any better. He is a miserable mess at night. I do everything I can to get him fed, bathed and into bed as quickly as possible which is disappointing to me because I would actually like to spend time with him. This also gives me major mom guilt as I know if I was home he would be taking good naps.

Anyone experience this and it actually got better or should we just expect this to continue.
