When i pick up from our day care the ladies usually hand our 3 month old over to me when i come in and we say hello and snuggle while they pack her bottles and cloth diapers i put her in her car seat usually her report is in her bottle bag. I ask about her day and when the last feed/change was, sign her out and we're off

I chit chat with the teachers to see how DS did that day, and they usually gather everything up for me.

If DH does pick up, she texts the director he's on his way, and he's in and out unless the teacher says something him. Usually a reminder to bring something (e.g. more wipes, more diapers, etc.)

We are at an inhome, I come every day at 5, so they have her bag, blanket, ect. all together & I usually sit on the ocuch and chat with our lady while getting LO rounded up (she hates leaving.) I stay anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 if another parent is there. I love our daycare lady so I enjoy chatting with her.

LO has been at two day cares. At the first, a center, her things were always ready when I picked her up at 5:30. I never even knew where her cubby was. The teachers had the pickup order figured out and they would always hold the baby that was going to be picked up next. I could tell because some days we were out of order. The teachers in the room at the end of the day were not the ones that watched her, they combine rooms after 5, so there was very minimal small talk.

Now LO is in an in-home daycare. There are seven kids. Some days I pick up during story time. I feel really badly that the teacher interrupts the story to help me pack the bag and tell me about LOs day. Sometimes the helper picks up with story time but two of the three don't know English so sometimes all the kids just sit there and wait. This daycare doesn't do written reports so I need to talk to her to find out how the day went. LO is 10 months so she's not going to tell me herself.

I get there between 435-440 every day. I pick up R, get her sheet for the day, chit chat a little bit, grab her bag (everything is already in it for the day) and we are off. I don't talk as much in the evening cause 5 mins makes a big difference with traffic.

Now in the mornings, I give R to the her teacher, I put her up food and bottles, write down her first bottle, meal and diaper time. Then I talk to her her teacher. I am usually there 10 minutes. But it is easier cause in the AM there is only one other kid there. In the afternoon, there are 5 or 6 other kids besides R still.

I stay and chat for a while. I like to hear as much about her day as possible. And I think it's important to have a good relationship with the people who look after your child all day.

I pick up all of the baby's stuff that needs to go home in my bag for daycare. Then I put her in her car seat and leave her in the infant room with her teachers while I go to the toddler room to fetch my LO and her stuff. I usually don't have time to talk to the teachers unless I have a question or concern about something.

I pick up LO at 4:40 most days. Most parents get there by 5 it seems.

Wash my hands, hang with LO and her buddies for a few minutes, pick up her Daily Report and look at it together. She usually wants to hold it/flail it around. Then we go to her cubby together and get her lunch bag, sweater, etc. Sign out and then walk to the car, which takes forever! She's in the "bye-bye" stage and will say bye to her teachers like 10x each.

I usually have a quick chat with teachers during the whole process and/or my LO will interact with them, give them a hug goodbye, etc. It takes 10-15 minutes to actually leave..

I come in anywhere between 4:40 and 5pm, greet LO and start getting her ready. While doing so i chat with the caregivers, sign out and leave. I'm usually there for about 10 minutes.

I know some parents who grab all of their kid's stuff and put it on outside of the class.

I grab her stuff, chat with the teacher for a moment to see how her day went, and if the baby is outside then I'll go get her. I try to keep the chats really short because all the kids leave at the same time. It is a preschool rather than day care though.

Sometimes the teacher will say, "Baby, Travelingnanny is here!"

@yoursilverlining: the kids in my LO's class seem to really like me too! They always chant my LO's name when they see me and they will come over and try to play with me. It makes my LO a little jealous!

I chit-chat a bit when I'm there because I like to know about my LO's day and his overall mood. I don't have anything to gather. We just change his shoes and put his coat on. Everything else is already in his backpack. Most other parents I see are in and out.

@MsLipGloss: @locavore_mama: Okay. So I guess I'm "normal". I don't know why I feel so awkward when i do pick up.

My LO's primary teacher doesn't speak/understand English really at all. So another teacher in the infant room has to do the translating. The thing is, I understand some spanish so I can understand the teacher's answers, but I'm not confident enough in my verb tenses to ask questions in spanish. Anyway, so I end up not asking much when I REALLY want to know details of how my LOs day went. I mean, I get the sheet that says when she ate, napped, pooped and peed...but I want to know like....was it hard to get her to eat? (she's not a good eater). Was it hard to get her to nap (I'm sure she's still adjusting).

Because of the language barrier, these things are not just offered to me and I have to get the other teacher over to ask.

And, this is only the 2nd full week in daycare, but they always seem surprised when I arrive, so I go to pick up my baby first (of course, because I miss her) but then I have to awkwardly hold LO while I try to gather up her bottles, find her paci, get her coat, etc. etc. And the teacher will try to help, but sometimes she's in the middle of feeding another baby or something.

LOL. I guess there's just a day care learning curve that I never expected.

Also, they SPOIL my husband, I think because he's a man. When I toured the day care and when I did the trial day, they told me that parents had to put everything away in the correct bin. They have a bin for solids food, a bin in the fridge for bottles, a bin in a changing room for diapers and wipes, a bin in the coat room for changes of clothes and jacket--- but for my husband they always take the stuff and put it away for him! LOL

Our pick up routine has varied as she has changed rooms. When she was an infant there wasn't any official class schedule or routine so whenever we came a teacher would try to help us gather up her things (bag, swaddle, bottles, papers, etc) and we would chat and we would be out the door.

Now that she's a toddler, they are usually in the middle of a snack or activity if we pick up early at 4 pm and it would be hard to ask the teacher to stop to help us gather her things. And now its less things to gather.

I pick her up at 5:15 and I'm almost always the only parent there. They've usually gathered up her things so I go in, say hello and start chatting, grab her bags, then grab her. I try to strike a balance of chatty but not annoying ;) I know at the end of the day the last thing they want is to be interrogated, so I just ask how they are and how she did that day.

When DD was in daycare we were usually some of the last parents to pick up which was nice because it gave us a chance to chat with her teachers. We usually asked how her day was. Most of the time they had her stuff ready to go but if we picked up early and they didn't, we'd gather anything we needed to.

I always chit-chat with her teachers, but her teachers are also very chatty! They tell me about LO's day, 1-2 highlights of her day, and then give me her daily record sheet. I probably spend about 10 minutes each at pick up and drop off.

The other kids really like me too for some reason, so I usually have a couple of little ones telling me about their day too, pointing out their shoes, toys or blankets to me, which takes more time :silly:

The daycare teachers usual have all his things together when I get there, so there's really nothing to gather up. I stay and chat just a little if there isn't too much going on in the room. How did he eat/sleep? What did they do today? I see most parents just pop in and grab their kids and go though, so I think it's personal preference. My mom ran an in-home daycare while I was growing up though, and had good relationships with all her parents. It seems weird to me that parents just pop in and out and don't ever really speak to the person that spends the most time with their child.

J is past the point of having bottles but usually the teachers see me pull up (there's a big picture window in his room) and have his nap mat and daily report ready. That's not every time, sometimes they don't and I'm not offended. I just ask if he had a good day and if anything exciting happened then scadoodle home for snuggles and kisses :)

DH picks LO up around the same time. Usually daycare knows when pick up is and has everything all gathered for him already. Usually there is some small chitchat. Her teachers might tell him something hilarious she did that day. Or if anything was unusual, etc. In the beginning it was "we got her to nap longer than 40 minutes today!" LOL

I have a funny question. My 6 month old started day care just a couple of weeks ago. I pick her up about 4-4:15 every day and I have yet to see another parent pick up their LO at the same time (I'm sure most don't get off work until 5 pm). So I can't observe other parents...

But, what do you do/ask when you pick up your LO at day care? I guess I'm asking...are you in and out or do you stay and chat awhile?

Do you go around gathering LOs things (bottles, pacis, clothes) or does the day care teacher help?

I guess I just want to know your pick up routine--That kind of thing.
