They only work with your child once you have started the training at home so some kids in the 2s room are going through it but the day care director said boys aren't trained till after 3 usually. It almost felt discouraging to me hearing that but I guess they want to create a pressure free environment.

At 2 when they move into the preschool room. My LO is 2.5 and she seems to be on the later side on the potty training. She does NOT want to go on the potty. They said they try with her every day. Most of the other kids her age are already potty trained for pee.

At 2, they move into the room that has potties right there in the room. Every 2 hours, they sit on the potty, but that's also when they would have changed the diaper anyway.

Between 2-3. They have two toddler rooms and the older toddlers take regular potty breaks, but they don't push training on any of the kids who haven't started at home yet. They'll follow the parents lead.

@littlek: Our daycare has 4 toddler rooms.. (insane kind of)...

Todd 1 (12-18 mos)
Todd 2 (18-24 mos)
Todd 3 (24-30 mos)
Todd 4 (30-36 mos)

They started this since there is really so much development that happens between 1 and 3 years of age...

So...Todd 3 was the biggest change...it is "near" a bathroom. They wanted kids to have the ability to be potty training in that room if need be. It shares a wall (and door) with Todd 2 - so they really could accommodate a potty training kid as young as 18 mos.

In our school they start really encouraging in Todd 4 - there is a bathroom in the room and kids are actively encouraged to sit and try regularly - though diapers are still quite common. This is where my DD learned...she was basically fully PT'd by the time she went to pre-school (at 3)...though many kids are not quite there...

DD's school didn't start potty training anything till she got to the last class before pre-school ( so 2-3). She's the youngest; most of her classmates are already 3 or turning 3 but she has a Dec bday. So anyway, I'd say most of her class are potty trained already. They are very good though; they said they'd def encourage her but won't push and so far she isn't interested (29 months). Potty trained also isn't required at pre-school, but I just hope she's ready this summer for easy training!

Hmm, I'm curious too. My son is 20 months and in the 1 year old room, they don't do anything related to potty.

Once he turns 2, they are moved up to the 2 year old room and they do work on potty training there, but I'm guessing it's just dependent on the age and readiness of the child??

We don't even have a little potty at home yet so maybe I am behind! He sometimes tells me "poopy" but he would much rather stay in his poopy diaper than stop playing for a diaper change!

@littlek: yep...we are being super lax about it thus far. We are starting to try to put him on he toilet before his bath every night. Otherwise, we have a little seat in our powder room on the main floor and when we go to the washroom we ask if he wants to join us to sit on his potty.

At 18 months, daycare asked about starting PT because he was often dry between the time I dropped him off in the morning (7:30ish) and 11-11:30am. But truthfully, I know he is not ready because he looks me in the eye as he poops and when I ask him if he's pooped he shakes his head and runs away! He is 100% ok with being in a poopy diaper!

We started talking about it when LO was 18 months but didn't push anything because I knew he was far from ready. He's 21 months now and I know they try the potty on occasion (and we do the same at home). I think they're more active about it when he moves to the 2-3 year old room but I won't be pushing it until he's at least 25-26 months.

The 2.5 - 3 yo class is where our school focuses on it. Our LO is currently 28 months and is the youngest in this class and under it's age limit.

The school policy is for the child to spend a weekend at home working on training before they can come to school in underwear. This classroom has a bathroom and all diapering happens in the bathroom. They are allowed to use the bathroom on request.

Our teacher approached the subject with us recently that our LO is using the bathroom frequently and requesting to do so and she felt LO was ready. We took the plunge on Sunday and so far are doing great for awake times. Still diapering for naps and overnights.

Anytime LO shows interest – it’s an on-going process. The toddler room is for kids between 1 year and 2.5 years, but they stressed that LO does not need to be potty trained to move up to the preschool room once she is older than 2.5 years, and that some kids are not and it’s no big deal at all.

The way they do it is there is a kid-sized bathroom in each toddler room, and it’s not a secret when another kid uses the bathroom or tries to use the bathroom (many kids are interested in what “Jane” is doing, and the teachers encourage them to ask questions, and are open about how “Jane” is using the potty and why, etc.). Then, everyone washes their hands after someone uses the bathroom, which is a huge hit with all the kids (washing hands with soap is one of LO’s favorite things to do now!). When LO shows an interest in sitting on the potty herself, they will help her to do so and talk about what’s happening with her and what we do on the potty.

We don’t have a potty chair at home yet, but are going to get one this weekend since LO is starting to understand somewhat about body functions. She sometimes tells us when she has pooped, etc. LO is 18 months, and we definitely won’t push potty training until she is ready, which I don’t see in our immediate future.
